Since installing CMC - Mailchimp for Joomla! on J3.1.1, in the Joomla! Control Panel, where the updates are checked, I get

Unknown Joomla!...
Unknown extensions...

When I click on Unknown Joomla!, I get " 0 Could not connect to resource: https://compojoom.com/index.php?option=com_ars&view=update&task=stream&format=xml&id=13&dummy=extension.xml"

It's really odd, as I've only been getting it since installing CMC.

Is there some kind of configuration change I can make to fix this?

@liz - can you send a mail with access credentials to your website? I can't fix this unless I have a site that has the problem. And none of the sites I own have this.

Daniel

hi i had to disable it entirely. when i updated to 1.4 it created a second record in the update_sites table that still had the space. but when i deleted that space it still didnt work. i wound up having to disable the update for the component.

Hey Jason,
Thank you very much for this information! I was all the time thinking that it is the https and would most probably never find this out (as it works for me on localhost). I've corrected this and it will be in the next release!
Thank you!
Daniel

I found the solution. The problem is that in the Joomla table update_sites, there is an unneccessary space before the CMC Updates URL like this:
" https//http://compojoom.com/index.php?option=com_ars&view=update&task=stream&format=xml&id=13&dummy=extension.xml"
^
|_ see the space? (By the way, I had to remove the colon from the URL, otherwise Kunena kept rendering it as a link.)

Remove the space and the Joomla and Extensions update checks work in the control panel.

I found it on the previous version, but I thought you'd have found it so I didn't report back. I just upgraded to 1.4 and the space is back again, so I thought I ought to let you know.

Hopefully, this will help anyone else having the same problem.

Hey Jason,
the problem is that the hotspots update url uses encrypted connection (https) and your server is not configured properly to handle this (is this a local xampp or wamp installation???).

You can login with phpmyadmin and navigate to the #__update_sites table and disable the cmc update url.

Daniel

Hey Claus,
Thank you for the feedback. I'll check JCE and will see if there is something on our side that we can do.

Daniel

Hi Daniel,

I've had the same problem with updates not working. You workaround fixed the problem for me too, so thanks a lot for the information - it have really bugged my mind for some time.

I did however notice that there are other extensions that also use https for the update queries (e.g. JCE Editor) and they do not cause any odd http errors. So, I suspect that there might be some other reasons than missing https support on the server side.
Btw, I'm running my joomla 3.1.4 on a hosted linux/apache, with a ton of protocols supported by curl, including https.

Cheers,
Claus
