I'm trying to figure out how to change the layout of the latest comment module.

On my old Joomla 1.0.15 site - with an older version of !JoomlaComment, the module put out a beautiful bullet list.
With the migration to Joomla 1.5x and the changes that that migration requires, I had to update to the latest version of !JC and the module.
I am trying to:
-get rid of all of the blank lines in between listed comments
-change the date format displayed so the time is not included
-include the word "by" in between the date listed and user listed
