Hello support person.
I have been using CComment Pro for over two years on my website and it has worked very well.
I am a very happy customer
Currently I have version 5.3.8 installed.
My question is about how CComment Pro handles email notifications - I will try to explain as best as possible.
Normally I approve and edit all new comments via the Front End of Joomla.
However recently I approved of some comments via the Back End Administrator Dashboard using Manage Comments and discovered a behaviour that I find very concerning.
One of my articles has 62 comments underneath it.
There are about 20+ unique comment threads posted under the article.
This is the example page in question, but it applies to ALL pages with comments on my website.
https://www.moviestudiozen.com/free-tutorials/sony-vegas-pro/485-how-to-render-1080p-and-720p-video-using-sony-vegas-pro-12#!/ccomment-page=1
This is what happened:
1. A new person posted a new comment (question) - they started a new comment thread.
2. I received an email notification that someone had posted a comment and needed approval.
3. I logged into the backend of Joomla and used the Manage Comments function to approve the comment.
4. Then I noticed the problem. Email notifications were then sent out to every single person who had ever posted a comment (question) under this article. I was in a little bit of shock when I could see what was happening, because I then realised that LARGE amounts of email notifications were probably being sent out every time a new user posted something on the website.
I just assumed that when comments are posted and new replies are made, the only people that should be receiving email notifications are the people that replied to that single comment/question. People who asked completely different questions from a long time ago, DO NOT need to or want to receive notifications about other people's problems. This type of behaviour is very spammy in my opinion and I wouldn't want to have the same thing happen to myself on someone else's website.
There are TWO things I have been thinking about:
1. I don't know how you have programmed CComment Pro, so I don't want to jump to the wrong conclusion. This problem may be caused by ME, because I use to use a different comment system and when I installed CComment Pro, I manually imported a large database from a different app into the CComment database.
2. Is this behaviour I am experiencing a programming error - a simple oversight?
OR Is this how how you programmed the application ?
Either way, can this be fixed or changed so that only people who have subscribed to each separate question, receive notifications ?
Final comments:
As a temporary fix, I manually edited every single comment that has every been made on my website, I turned OFF the notifications for people who had subscribed to email notifications.
Also, has there been any progress on Ccomment 6.0 Alpha 1 - will the new version be ready for use soon on active sites ?
Regards
