Resolved Comments not expanded by default

I'm wondering if there is a setting that allows for comments to be expanded beneath the articles by default. Now all I see is the icon "Write comment (2 comments)" which I need to click in order to see the comments. I've tried a couple of templates, Protostar and Beez3 with the same results. Thanks for any help.
