Hi,

We may be very interested in the Pro version of your HotSpots Extension for Joomla and have a quick question for you before we decide to purchase.

We may want to host this site internally in our domain, so no public access to the site will be available. Are any Google licenses required for use of the Google maps provided via your plugin?

Many thanks in advance...

Glenn

Hey Glenn,
I'm not a lawyer :), so I don't really have an idea. But according to this:
productforums.google.com/forum/#!topic/maps/CtONqSfNRf8
you are not allowed to use gmaps in an intranet. I also remember that this was mentioned somewhere in the TOS of google maps.

Kind regards,
Daniel

P.S. I also have no idea if they track it or not :) There are thousands of websites using gmaps in one way or another.

Thanks for your reply Daniel,

I had read somewhere that you can use gmaps on an intranet but you must have a Premier or Enterprise license, but they cost $10,000+ per year!

I will pop on to the Google Forum and see what they say. If this is the case then we can maybe host it on the internet and just require password login for the site and avoid this cost ;)

Cheers...

Hi Daniel,

Google have confirmed for me that I do in deed need an Enterprise license to run the Maps API on an intranet, the cost is €8,000 per year! Probably won't happen.

I have a couple more quick questions for you regarding your extension if I may:

1. If we were to put this site on the internet and leave the map page open for public viewing, which would be fine with Google's terms & conds, do you think we would have a problem if we set permissions on our HotSpot Markers so only users successfully logged into our Joomla site would see the Markers? Do you think this is still within Google's Terms & Conds? This is a feature of your Extension so I am thinking it wouldn't be an issue.

2. Quick question on the "Read More" link at the bottom of the Markers. Can we set additional info for this page or can that only be set in the Pro version? Also, can this "Read More" page also require permissions to view?

Many thanks in advance...

Glenn

Sorry Glenn, missed your post.

1. I think that it is ok - but I'm not a lawyer, I'm a developer :) So don't take my word for it on this matter. You need to speak with someone else.
2. What do you mean with additional info? the readmore leads to a single view of the marker with the whole description of the marker. You can have whatever content in there.
You cannot make the read more restricted to specific user group out of the box. However you could achieve this with a template override for the single view and where you display the full description you could check if the user has the necessary privileges and show him a login form or show him the whole content.

Kind regards,
Daniel

Thanks for responding Daniel,

On Q1, I will see about getting our legal people to look into this.

On Q2, I was just wondering if we could have a short description of the marker on the popup and then some more detail on the page that opens when you click "Read more". But i looks like the same info that is shown on the popup is all that will display on the "Read more" page. This is fine if that is how it works, I can probably just look to put a link in the description to an article that I can control permissions to.

Thanks again...
Glenn

2. Actually - its not. When you submit a Hotspot in the description field you have to hit the readmore button and all the text that comes after the line will be shown only when the user goes in single view. It works the same way as the standard joomla articles :)

Cheers,
Daniel

I was looking for a "read more" button for this, but can't find one!

I have one when I am creating a new article. Is it only visable in the Pro version? I am still testing the Core version.

Tks...

it should be visible in the core as well. You can see it on our demo site:

I don't have a "Read more" when creating new HotSpots,
See below

The one on your demo page if for Front End creation which I believe is only available in the Pro version.

Well, I just tested on joomla 3.2 and for some reason the button is missing. I'll investigate what is going and will fix it in the next couple of days.

Daniel

I've fixed this on the 27th of December. You can test this in the dev. release:

Hi Daniel,

There doesn't seem to be any files to download at that link. Also, the latest version to download on your site is 3.5.5, which is the version I currenty have installed with this issue.

Can you please advise?

Cheers,

Glenn

You don't have a Pro subscription, that is why you don#t see the release. Here is the link to the core version:

The "Read more" button shows up now Daniel,

However it doesn't work for me for some reason :(

When I click it the page closes and I am brought back to the default "Control Panel" landing page. I think this is more to do with an issue with my site though as I get the same problem even when trying to use the "Read more" in an article.

I do have a work-around for now though, just add the "Read more" in html view and it works fine. Just add this line in <hr id="system-readmore" />
and anything you want on the Read More page after this line.

Probably an issue with a plugin that I have installed or something.

Thanks for your help...
