TOPIC: v4 Beta 2 - Submit button has no text, comments are not posting

Hi all,

This is a first install of JoomlaComment on J 1.5 (legacy mode IS enabled, but for other reasons).

I've installed the latest Beta 2 dl'd today and this is the first install/attempt of JoomlaComment or any comment system.

Install appears to have gone smoothly, the comment links appear in my articles (before the Read More link) and the comment section is there at the bottom of my articles but when I try to post a comment I note that I cannot easily find the submit button (took me about 5 mins at first) and the reason is there is no text in the submit button, the button is blank.

Secondly, even after clicking this button, once or many times, my comments are not posted.

Not sure what to check or where to look as I'm new to JoomlaComment.
A couple quick searches of the board did not reveal any similar problems but perhaps I'm just not using the right terms.

Any help is much appreciated.

J! installed in subfolder ( /Joomla )

The background of the button is the same as the color of the text of your template(the color for input buttons).
So go to joomlacomment's css file. Open it and find:
This should make the text color black.

Thanks for the quick answer, I'll check that, however it doesn't speak to why my comments are ultimately not posted.

Any thoughts on that?

let me also add that clicking on the Captcha text to reload it returns the same Captcha image over and over again.

Not sure if related but I found it peculiar.

you are unable to add a comment because a plugin is generating an error:
disable the rsd plugin and the comment system should start to work again. I don't know why you have this problem, but the best thing to start is to ask the developers of that extension.

Thanks Daniel. Disabling the RSD allows me to post. Now I have to see if RSD is still supported by it's dev. I think it's a bit old (though needed for DTP to Joomla).

I'm curious how you got that error message? I did not see any errors when I was trying.

EDIT2: Wait, Web Developer Toolbar won't help here it's only for JavaScript, HTML and client-side errors. Yeah Daniel, HOW DID you find that PHP error on a site that you dont have backend access to? I want to know aswell!

After you install it, you must start the console and you will see that when joomlacomment tries to make an ajax request to the server, the request is interrupted with that error message.

Looks like not. The RSD I have is v1.3 from Feb '08 and looks to be the latest. *Perhaps* Justo still *supports* it, but not sure what venue to use to contact him. I'm reading a bunch of stuff now.

Aha! I have never explored Firebug this much, I only used it for Inspect Element and CSS changing

So I enable Console Script in Firebug.... is this more powerful than the JavaScript console of Web Developer extension? I will have to try them both next time I find an error... thanks Daniel!

EDIT: Yup, it's definately more powerful. I tried it on my Facebook profile and it just went crazy on the AJAX request/response information! Wow, thanks again sir

I'm re-enabling RSD. Now that I know the source, gonna try to work through it a bit so I'll leave it enabled for now. Same site linked above.

Hopefully this'll work out because I was looking forward to using WLW to post to J! but/and I really like JC.... I REALLY don't want to have to choose

Well I just sent an E-Mail to the creator of the RSD plugin, inviting him to join our discussion here. At most I could hope he can help us here or give some feedback, but at the very least we can hope for is for him to give us the OK to modify RSD and fix this, and release a new update of it

However, it might not be that critical.

I just noticed that WLW still picks up all my posts even w/ RSD DISABLED. Perhaps RSD is only needed when initially configuring the account for WLW et al?
If so, then one can enable RSD, config the account in the writer software and disable the RSD. More testing needed to confirm but so far that looks to be the case.

Not the most elegant solution and probably not a solution for active/many publisher J! installs, but as a workaround it'll work for me.

A real fix would still be wanted and warranted but maybe this'll help someone other than me in the meantime.

Really? Are you sure? Andy's blog post there says that the latest MetaWeblog extension has a version of the RSD plugin newer than 1.3 from Joomlacode.org and he said it fixed his error. Maybe it's caused by something else.

Well I also see there's a Forum thread on the official Joomla site fromthe creator of those extensions, I wish I found that before I E-Mailed him >_<

It's late and I have to retire for the night, but I do actually want to take a look at this tomorrow. I never even knew we could use WLW or similar programs with Joomla and i'm fed up with JCE's bugs and it's horrible "Paste from Word" function that barely works

Unfortunately its an entirely different problem. Your site is generating no errors at all (from the front side) and requires additional checking. Please start a new thread, change Joomla Error Reporting (Global Configuration) from 'Default' to 'Maximum' and check your error_log file and see if the page also outputs any errors at the top. If you need more help with that, just ask in the new thread and we'll be happy to help.

Back on topic, the good news Joel is that Justo has given us permission here at CompoJoom to update the RSD plugin as he abandoned it over a year ago. Now, it's just a matter of fixing it I will take a look within the next few days (unless someone beats me to it).

After the first bugfix, with Daniels' permission I will contact Justo and negotiate about merging the RSD plugin under the umbrella of CompoJoom.com so we can have a seperate Forum section and documentation for it, and I hope I/we can continue to maintain and improve it.

Open source prevails!

Thanks a lot buddy. It worked after I changed the Error Reporting from "Default" to "Maximum". These stuffs give us so much headache to figure out only to realize it's some little problem Please keep me posted about that RSD plugging.

Wow that's the second lucky-guess i've made this week, i'm on a roll! Happy to hear you got it fixed up Ibrahim.

OK now we have three people (including myself) who would like the RSD plugin to work so I'm going to work on it right now
