Hi, I am testing out CComment Core now and I really like it. I will probably be purchasing the Pro version. But I do have a few questions.

  • Where are you storing email addresses for people making comments?
  • I assume if the person is logged in to my site, you use the email address in my J! database User table, right?
  • But what in the case of an unregistered guest who wants to be notified of further posts in a thread? You are storing that in a table you create for the extension? Will I have any control over this table? Or will it just grow indefinitely for the lifetime of the site for as long as I am using the extension?
  • What happens if someone is not a registered member of my site and starts out posting as a guest, specifying their email address and requesting notification of futher posts─then later this person registers as a user on my site? From that point on, you use the email address they registered with on my site?
I don't know how important the answers to these questions are, but I do worry about the MySQL tables growing forever without any sort of maintenance or oversight. Have you given this issue any thought and any remedies in the CComment Pro extension?

Thanks in advance,
Zy

I knew I would think of another question after I had submitted the above. There must be a Murphy's Law about this .....

How are Gravatars incorporated into CComment Pro?

- in the #__comment table
- yes, if the user is logged in we use his joomla user
- it will grow of course. The more comments you have, the bigger the comment table will become - isn't that a good thing?
- for the guest comments we ill continue to use the e-mail that he entered when he left the comment. For new comments we will use the e-mail from the #__user table

I don't know what you are worrying about. Databases are created to handle a lot of rows. There are people running tables with Millions of rows... 100s millions of rows... When you get to that size you can start to worry about performance...

For gravatars we just check what email the user is associated with and we show the gravatar image associated for this user.

Regards,
Daniel

Hi Daniel,

I'll be purchasing an advanced subscription for CComment later today. I do have one more question, however. On my site, I have developed a nifty way of using their Kunena profile avatar as their site user avatar. When using CComment will there be any way to specify that image as their default when requesting the gravatar for their email hash?

I promise I won't worry about performance. <chuckle>

Thanks for your quick response. I love the CComment extension. Best one I've tested out there, and I've spent a lot of time testing!

Yours,
Zy

Hi Daniel,

All I can say is ... WOW! I paid for my PRO 12 month support plan and everything is already working exactly as I had hoped it would. Your integration with Kunena avatars is everything I had hoped for, and I didn't have to do a thing but choose the right option in the PRO settings. We can consider this thread closed. I have no more questions and I could not be happier.

Thank you so much for all the work you put into this wonderful extension!

Yours,
Zy
