Hey Jack,
Which extension are you referring to?

Hey Jack,
Well I can't confirm this behavior. If you enter something in the search field, then we open a new tab where you see the search results. Clicking on any category shows the hotspots in that category without any restrictions.

In the next version the search will look a little different:
compojoom.com/blog/entry/hotspots-4-alpha-1-for-the-curious

But right now it also seems to do what you want?

Cheers,
Daniel

No - I search for "München" and the Map shows some results - but on the right the Address Tab wit the Default Listing is not updated when performing a search in the top search field.

I tried a hotspot search in the tab listing are.
Tiped in "München" - so all Hotspots in München are visible in Listing and in Map.

But i can not get back to category view. The search field does not allow empty input...

I'm not sure that we are talking about the same thing, but maybe I get what you mean.

Let us say you search for "test" (since münchen doesn't give any results). The search is performed, we show the results in the menu, we update the hotspots on the map & in the menu will auto switch you to the search tab.
Now when you click on any category -> the map updates with the hotspots in that category, you can browse around etc. Now if you decide to go back to the search -> you see the old search locations, but when you move around the map automatically switches you to the categories and not the search. That is really stupid & is a bug -> you should actually stay at the search.

If you press the search button again, after that you can move around and the search will update.

I agree that it is not really logical the way it is & that is why it has improved a lot in version 4... But I don't plan to invest any time in fixing this on version 3 now that version 4 is around the corner.

Regards,
Daniel

Wait, I just saw your last post. So what is the issue with just clicking on the category in the menu??? If you click on it, the map should switch you to the category? This is at least how it works on our demo???

Your Demo:
demo.compojoom.com/hotspots#!/catid=1
Category 1 is loaded by default.
I perform a search in the header search field for "Badische"
=> Map zooms in and shows the result
=> In the right Tab the results are not updated.
=> Now i delte the word "Badische" in the search field
=> Click on Category "Education"
=> Nothing happens - you have to zoom out the map and THAN the category markers are visible...

It seems to me that the Zoom-Factor is responsible how many hotspots are visible and listed in listing panel.
If you search for something and than go back to category without any limitation the Zoom-Facotr does not go back and stays in the same zoom level from the search performed before.
I think if you click on a caegory the zoom-factor should zoom in to the default which is set in backend or show all hotspots of a category.
That`s irritating the user ...

Hey Jack,
I see what you mean now. We've discussed this in the past on the forum.
With version 2.0.5 whenever you click on category it will zoom out to show you all available hotspots. So you browse around, zoom 10 times, then you want to see the hotspots in the area you currently in & then you get zoomed out, you have to repeat all the steps again to get to the place where you want.

Why does the map zoom in? Well the problem is -> your current zoom view area doesn't have any hotspots that have the word "badische" in them. So The server tries to search in a radius of 50km. It found 1 result and it also returned the coordinates. That is why the map zooms on the point. If you were searching for something in the area, then the map would not change the zoom.

Anyway - I understand your point. I know that it is confusing to the user. The whole search + category thing in version 2 & 3 has been confusing. That is why we've set to improve the things with version 4.

There the category selection works as filters. So you can search for any string, then you can limit the search to specific categories. That is something that people are used to - I think that there you'll be much more happy with the result.

In the mean time you'll have to live with the quirks of version 3 :(

Regards,
Daniel
