A couple of questions before I subscribe:
  1. Is CComments compatible with the latest version of DocMan, 2.0?
  2. I only want CComments enabled on DocMan, not the rest of the site... is that possible?
  3. The stars rating feature is primarily what I want. Is it possible to turn off comments while enabling the star rating feature?
If CComments works how I hope it does, I will have star ratings enabled for my DocMan 2.0 documents, but not the rest of my site. Thanks.

Last time I tried to create a plugin for docman 2.0 I was not able because the nooku framework was doing a lit too much and it was screwing the comments. I've reported the issue to the nooku team, but I don't know if they have fixed the issue. So the current state of affair is - no ccomment, doesn't work with docman 2.0.

Daniel

Hello - Is there to be any change with this? I would like to use docman with ccomments. Tried to integrate, but get the error below...

1054 Unknown column 'id' in 'field list' SQL=SELECT id, title FROM ch54b_docman_categories WHERE published = 1 ORDER BY title ASC

thanks

Pete

Hey Pete,
The plugin that you use should be compatible with the older version of docman. I'll try to update our plugin tomorrow and will provide you with a dev. release for testing if the bug that I experienced before is fixed.

Regards,
Daniel

Hi Daniel,

That would be great if you could do something - I'm more than happy to provide feedback for any updates.

I have ccomments working fine across all of my site, with integration to your matukio event sand hotspots software. The Docman area was the final part to get working when I realised during setting it up in ccomments (and by looking on the forums) there was a problem with the later versions. If ccomments and docman don't integrate then I may use Komento (or something similar) for the Docman pages only, keeping ccomments everwhere else. Not ideal as it won't look consistent, but comments are key and your product works perfectly everywhere else, so removing that isn't an option.

Maybe if you two get a spare 5 mins!! you could create your own document management system. I have three of your modules (events, comments and hotspots) and something to the same level of detail and quality would be great! In all seriousness, modules created by a single company/developer obviously makes integration simpler, as I'm finding out with this. It seems good document management modules are hard to find in joomla, so if you were thinking about a new project....

cheers Pete

Hey Peter,
Just pushed a new developer version of the component. Would you mind testing it?
Once it installs you'll have a new plugin "Koowa - CComment". You have to enable it. Also you need to create a com_docman setting in ccommetn -> settings.
After that you should see the write comment button on the lsit view and in single view you should see the comment form.
Let me know if it works for you.
Regards,
Daniel

Hi Daniel,

Thank you for pushing out an update so fast!
No problem with testing it, more than happy to do so. Just downloaded the latest DEV release from the DEV download area for Ccomment and installed into my site. I don't see the plugin called Koowa- Ccomment in my Plugins area?? It doesn't look like the plug was installed.

I have attached some screenshots of what I downloaded from the DEV area and what was installed on my site. If I have been a completed idiot, please feel free to say so!! :-)

If it helps, I'm running Joomla 3.3.6 and have the latest version of Ccomment installed.

Let me know know and I'll take a look later today. I'll fully test and pass back the results. cheers Pete

Hi Daniel,

It would help if I logged onto your site before downloading to see PRO versions!!!

Have now download the pro version and installed. I enabled the plug in and added com_docman into my ccommment install. Now when I go onto a docman page, it doesn't show the comments how they normally look on all other pages. It just gives a button that says 'Write Comments' and if you click it, it does nothing. See the screenshot below of what is displayed. Thanks Pete

Just to add re the button that has appeared..... The URL it is trying to go to is the same as the docman page, but with #!/ccomment added.
Example
The Docman page URL is www.mysite.com/testdocs/docname and the button's URL is www.mysite.com/testdocs/docname#!/ccomment

thanks Pete

Hi Daniel,

Tried the install again and got the same result. Also looked at the documentation for ccomment/docman integration and the steps aren't relevant for this version now - the file structure has changed in later versions of docman. That aside, I found the equivalent files in the new version and inserted the code. It didn't work...

Let me know if you want me to try anything else.

cheers Pete

No, no. The docs is for the old version. The new version just needs the plugin.
How is this document linked to? do you have a direct link to it, or are you accessing it through the list of documents. I haven't tested with documents linked in the menu. I'll do that tomorrow and will let you know.

Daniel

i knew that really, but my brain told me to rule it out!

i have tried this a few ways:

1. created menu items using any of the options (document lists, categories, etc), it always displays the 'write comments' box that doesn't work on the document page. I never see the view that would show the comments and box to enter comments.

2. created a docman module from the docman categories or documents modules and linked to a test page. that gives the same results as above.

the installs of docman and ccomment are as they are after install (no changes by me). i have enabled ccomment to work with docman and matukio. the comments work fine with matukio and joomla articles.

hope that helps.

cheers pete

The problem is that I was checking for the presence of layout=default in the url, and the link that we generate doesn't have this layout=default. At the same time the link that docman generates has the layout=default.
I removed the check for layout default and now the form loads (actually if you click on the title instead of the readmore link, than the form should load with the version that you have). Now the question is -> should the links that ccomment genrate have the layout=default or not. Is it actually possible to have a different layout? I couldn't find a setting for this.

Anyway - I pushed a new dev. version. Please isntall it and let me know if it works. If it doesn't work, then don't waste your time uninstalling and installing again :) It should work out of the box, anything else is a waste of time :)

Cheers,
Daniel

Thank you Daniel. Just installed the new version and after a quick test, it is looking good. :-)

From the category view I can see the button that shows how many comments have been left and when I click into the document, I can see the comment chain in the correct view. I can then post comments as expected. All looks how it should after a quick test.

The only minor issue I have found is that when I place a tick in the 'notify me of follow up comments' the email notifying me of a comment doesn't get generated. If I use this feature on Matukio or standard articles, the email is generated.

I will do some more structured testing tomorrow and will feedback to you.

Thanks again. Pete

That can't be related to the plugin, as this functionality is shared between all plugins. Can oyu have a look a tthe #__comment_queue table - do you find the comments that you've made with docman?

Daniel

Apologies, please Ignore me. just checked my email again and they have now come through... why they were so slow to come through I don't know. comment notifications were going to various test accounts I have, so maybe something up with the provider or my smtp service. I'll look in detail tomorrow if it persists. anyway, nothing to do with ccomment. like you say, docman integration is using the same shared functions.

all comments visible in the back end by the way.

thanks Pete

Hi Daniel,

Bit of an update on this. I have spent some time tonight testing the Docman integration and pleased to say I haven't found any issues.

Things I have successfully tested.
  • Creating menu items from each of the docman options (filtered list, tables, single doc, etc...)
  • Inserting the docman modules into some test pages
  • Posting comments as various users
  • Receiving emails when other comments are left
  • Excluding categories
  • Autopublish
  • Notify moderators
  • captcha
  • Nested comments
  • Enable voting
  • Require user

  • I'll continue to use over the next few days and will let you know if anything crops up.

Thanks for your help with this. I appreciate it.

    cheers Pete
