Hello. Great extension. I have a project where I need to migrate Wordpress blog entries into Joomla articles and thinking about buying your extension.

2 questions:

1. I read that I have to export the DB of Wordpress then import it into the Joomla DB, then run your extension. Do I then delete the imported tables afterwards?

2. The big problem I have is this: Within the WP blogs there are links that link back and forth to other blog entries. Once I migrate, the urls of those links will not work since the Joomla urls will be different. Is there a way to update the links that are within the blog entries/articles? Does your extension give me a list of the urls of all the old blog entries and the new Joomla articles, and then I can possibly do a find/replace for the urls and replace them with the new urls (assuming your extension will give me a list of the old and new urls as well)?

Also, there would be external links coming into our site to find specific blog entries, so I would need to do a massive url redirect list to ensure that anyone who links to the old WP blog urls will be forwarded to the same article within the Joomla system. Is this possible?

Hi Daniel.

1. Thanks.

2. Ouch, not what I wanted to hear. Does your extension give me a list of the URLs of the old blog entries and the new Joomla articles? There has to be a way to do a mass find/replace, even if it is text based via MySQL. The URLs in the articles are just text that needs to be replaced. I just need to have a list of the old blog entries URLs and the corresponding new article URL's. Even if I can't change the links within the articles, if I have the list of matching URLs I can set up URL forwarding on the server and that would suffice. Is there some way to get the list of old and new URLs???

There are extensions that will search and replace within a Joomla article. I just have to know what to replace. Does your migration extension give me a list or log of all the old Wordpress URLs and the new Joomla URLs?

The Extension cannot give you a list of old and new urls as this is from my current understanding of joomla impossible.

You cannot know the link in advance in Joomla. Especially when we talk about SEF urls. For example the link to an item can be:
index.php?option=com_content&id=20
index.php?option=com_content&id=20&catid=30
index.php?option=com_content&id=20:my-article&catid=30:my-category
But it can also be index.php?Itemid=15
And when you enable sef url stuff gets extremely crazy depending on your menu structure.

You can search with a general preg_match for the <a href=""> tag that will contain the wordpress url and then replace it manually with the joomla equivalent in your site. If anyone has an idea how to automate this task - please share it with me. Right now you are left to some manual work.
