Hi there,

this is Hartmut, back after long time.

I've just installed the latest version of hotspots, and I have several questions:

1. If I want to create a hotspot from Frontend, like my users normally do, the editor opens and I have the option to insert a picture there. However, I cannot browse for a picture on my computer, I only get the attached popup, which is useless...

2. I activated the module "Latest Hotspots" but get a warning immediately at Frontend (have activated warnings for the time being)

3. What is the new path to uploaded images? I migrated the database (previously used Joomla 2.5.28) and it seems that the locations in Joomla 3.4.3/Hotspots 5.10 is not the same. At least, the pictures are not loaded, when opening Hotspots.

I hope, you can help me...

Best Regards
Hartmut

Hey Hartmut,
1. This is something that your editor is giving you. that is not the new image upload that we have in hotspots.

2. Do you have hotspots? Have you selected the correct category in the settings.

3. The Images are moved to the images folder images/com_hotspots . Did you visit the dashboard after you updated? There we should try to migrate your old images.

Regards,
Daniel

Hello Daniel,
thanks for quick reply.

1. Is there an editor you can recommend?
2. Actually, I don't know what you mean
3. Is it really images/com_hotspots? I have a folder there which is named "com_hotspots.hotspot" Please be so kind and advise me the complete pathes for different kind of images. In this folder "com_hotspots.hotspot" I find only three subfolders 116, 117 and 193 which are empty :-(

Best Regards
Hartmut

Sorry, the post must have slipped somewhere down and I haven't seen it.

1. I normally use JCE.

2. Do you have any hotspots in the database. The line that is showing the notice taking the items from the database. In your case it seems that there are no items from the database. If you have hotspots items in your database, then my guess is that you have selected a wrong category in the module settings. Just open it and make sure to select the correct hotspots category.

3. I have no clue why the folders are empty, but the correct path is com_hotspots.hotspot (actually you can configure this in the settings under multimedia). If you look here: demo.compojoom.com/hotspots/87-parks/10677-10441-lorem-ipsum the gallery that sits on top -> it's created out of the images that were uploaded for this hotspot. (thats the new image upload option)

Regards,
Daniel

Hi Daniel,

back again :)

I still have Problems with this component:

I'M almost about to give up with it....

Meanwhile I updated to 5.1.11 but in Frontend have following Screen for add a new hotspot (I splitted it, as it to large vor a screenshot)

Then is the map.

There is no Option to insert a Picture, except in the text area only...

I use JCE a Editor as well, with other Editors it is the same.

A complete new Installation brought no changes, except all categories are gone.

I also wonder that there is no table "hotspots_categorie" in the database, and no columns for Picture links in the table "hotspots_marker" anymore.

Any clue?

I'm pleased to hear

Giving up is not an option.

hotspots_catgorie is an old table - it should auto deleted by the update script. The categories have been moved to the default joomla categories table #__categories. Which version did you upgrade from?

Go to Hotspots in the backend and navigate to the categories in hotspots. Do you see any categories in the backend? If you do, then the categories are there. Why you don't see them in the backend? Most probably because of wrong privileges. In order for the categories to show in the dropdown in the frontend you should grant create permissions to the user group that is able to post to them.

About the picture upload. Go to the hotspots Dashboard in the backend and click on Options. Then navigate to permissions. Select the user group that is able to create hotspots and grant them the upload files permission as well. After that you should see the upload image form.

Daniel

Hi Daniel,

of Course, I won't give up so early :)

But it's really a bit frustrating...

I updated from 5.1.10 to 5.1.11

I found the categories in the Default table

I have restored the database from a recent backup and the categories are back. They are also visible in frontend again.

Since all links to previously inserted are broken, I can restore them manually, by inserting the Pictures from backend again.

So far, so fine, but I still cannot see an Option for Picture upload in frontend, not even as logged in Super User, who has all permissions...

"Create hotspot" form in front end looks almost identically to the one in backend, except the option for picture dragging/dropping or selecting them. this is just missing :(

I tried to grant a registered user the necessary permissions as well, but no changes.

Hope you understand what I mean and can give the ultimate hint :)

Meanwhile I found it, I will Need to visit my eyes doctor :cheer: , sorry for the headache I gave you.

One more question:
In which table in the database are the links to the pictures written? I could not find them :)

Best Regards
Hartmut

Hi Daniel,

Meanwhile I could set up Hotspots, but only have (for the time being :) ) one remark:

If the Picture Name contains öÖäÄüÜ (German characters) an upload is not possible. Is there a way to enable this? It's a bit strange for the users that they cannot upload Pictures "as they are", but may have to rename them first.
You may understand my request if you know that the average age of my users is above 70 :)

Do you have an idea how to overcome this?

Pleased to hear :)

Best Regards
Hartmut

So the image upload is working in frontend as well? What was the solution for you?

What's the exact error when you upload the files with the german letters? It should be coming from Joomla, we use the standard upload function of the joomla library. And I have the feeling that they are checking if the name contains valid characters and non ascii characters are not counted as valid.

Daniel

Hi Daniel,

I simply overlooked to grant the permission for the right usergroup (shame on me... :( )

Following error:

Indeed, this message comes from the JOOMLA-library. As the upload with such characters works, i.e. in JoomGallery, is there an option to override this?

I found a way to fix this, currently investigating if the fix is good and looking for possible problems. The fix will be in the next dev. release and later in the stable release.

Daniel
