Hello,

I thought I saw this mentioned somewhere, but can't seem to figure it out on my own. Is there an option to display a location's State, either through a field in backend, and/or option to display on front-end?

Thanks,
Juanmind

Hey Juanmind,
We currently don't save the state at all. So this information is not available.
I've added this to our todo list for a future version. We'll provide an option to show this field & to save data to it.
Regards,
Daniel

I'll add my request for a state/province field. Very important for USA clients.

Hey Daniel,

The more I work with Hotspots, the more pressing the need I find for a State field.

What is the outlook/timeframe for making that happen ?

As an alternative, if I created a custom State field, how could I insert it into the address display as shown in the attachment ?

Thanks,

Dave

Custom field won't work for the state. The address fields are bound to the lat & lng fields & the map. That's why when you move the marker on the map, the address changes or when you change the coordiantes the address changes. Or when you change the address -> the coordinates change. However you can also turn off this behavior by setting the sticky marker option to no. Then no matter what you do with the marker, the address won't change.

Since I don't live in the States and I've never been there can someone explain to me why is the State so important? We do have states in countries in europe, but normally the zip code is enough. Treat me like a dummy please :)

Cheers,
Daniel

Thanks Daniel,

For the time being, I'll shut off the Sticky Marker.

The need for a States field is quite simple. It's just part of the standard convention in the US. I'm 56 and can't recall ever seeing it any other way.

I'm guessing but the reasons why probably pre-date the postal code

Even addresses in New York city, which is common knowledge that it's is in New York state are presented as New York, NY .

Also it's fairly common to have the same city name is different states.... I was born in Franklin, PA..... there are a bunch more... Franklin, TN, Franklin KY, Franklin NH, Franklin OH........

Bottom line.... given it's the standard, it's a "must have" over here.

Hey Daniel,

I need a position for my client on this. Can you commit to implementing the State field ? When could we expect it to be ready ?

Thanks,

Dave

Attached is our current list for 5.2. I expect it to have it ready around the end of October, beginning of November. But that depends on few other deadlines.

I know that on the surface that adding a state field doesn't look like a big deal, but it's at least half a day of work(at least)We need to make a change to the database, to the installation script, to each view with that displays an address, we need to add the logic how to show that field etc.

What could really help me is an example of how a whole address should be displayed. If you look at the settings under layout we have a User Interface option - this determines how the address is shown in the US and in Europe. Please give me an example how to show the Address in the US format.

Regards,
Daniel

P.S. If it is urgent I can make you a quote for custom development on it.

Thanks Daniel,

Here's the typical format for displaying addresses in the USA.

Addressee
Street Address
Address Details - ie Suite #, Apt # etc.
City, State, Zip Code, Country

ie...

Dave Dodds Web Development
3793 Hillsborough Road
Suite A1
Cameron Park CA 95682-8505 USA

The "Address Details" may or may not be needed depending on if you're sending to a stand-alone home/business or an office, apartment building, etc.

The Zip Code always include the first 5 digits. The second part "-8505" is optional.

The "Country" is often omitted as most Americans don't realize there are other countries

================================

Your new feature list looks good. I've got one more suggestion for you.

Make an option in "User hotspots" page to give a user access to edit all hotspots. In our case, we've got a student intern adding and editing our dealers to the hotspots page. I'd like for her to have front end access to edit all hotspots.

Cheers,

Dave
