Hello,
I just tried the core version of Hotspot and I am very pleased with it :) Now I will have to get the pro-version as I need to mark about 200 hotspots in my website.
I just wonder before I do so, whether/how I can create different hotspot maps corresponding to differents cities (my website is a kind of city guide) ?
Or does it have to be just one map, with different tiles?
Thank your for your help!

On the same site or what? And are you going to show the same category of spots for the different cities?
I think that people are thinking wrong about all this most of the time. If you want to show the restaurants in several cities you don't create 2 categories for city 1 and city2. You just create 1 category called restaurants and publish your hotspots in it. Then the user, since he know in what locations and where he is interested in, then he moves the map to his place. Or you could use the geolocation centering to center the map on his current location.

Daniel

Thank you for answering so quick!
What I would like to do is to make a submenu-point in each city (within the same site) that links to one or different hotspots- maps, it doesn't matter. What matters is that you can reach this hotspots from each city.
I tried to do that in the menus, but it seems that I just can create a single menu point for the whole site, is that right?
Thank you for your help :)

Okay, I see. In this current version you'll have some work to do. In version 4 I'll try to make setting a custom center and zoom more easy.
Here is what you could do...
We have an option that will allow you to copy the current location of the map. You need to enable it in the menu (copy map link - I think that I called it). Once you have this and you move around you'll be able to click the link and it will generate a version of the link that should open at the location where you are currently in. Here I would like to say -> just create external links to the locations you want and this would be it... But unfortunately this is only half the story. If you do that the only change in the link will be the part after the hash #..

If you are not on the map and you open each map link in a new tab -> then it will work as expected. But if you are already on the map and you try to click a link in the menu, then only the part after the hash will change and the map won't change the location.

There are 2 ways how you could fix this. 1st -> make the external links always open in a new window, which is not that user friendly...

2. You have to create hidden menu links (A Menu that isn't shown by any module is usually called a hidden menu. Hidden menus can be used to create URLs that are not visible on any page. ) for each city. Then you'll again have to create external links that point to that city (you have to use again the copy link location), but in this case your external links would look like
mysite.com/newyour#/231231/21321
mysite.com/paris#/1231132

And the browser will automatically reload the page.

Daniel

Hi Daniel,

I've created a new category for locations "cities-and-states"
Next, I've to created a new point "Melbourne". The URL to open is this:
http://localhost/map/index.php/auto-generate-from-title/7-cities-and-states/4-melbourne

Now I have 2 problems.
1. My custom zoom level is not saved. Is this because I'm using Core version of hotspots?
2. If I follow this link, no other spots are shown. There is no top bar or side bar, only search for directions...

Please advice...

Have you used the copy link function? It will create a link with #/lat long coordinates and zoom.

As I said in my post above:

We have an option that will allow you to copy the current location of the map. You need to enable it in the menu (copy map link - I think that I called it). Once you have this and you move around you'll be able to click the link and it will generate a version of the link that should open at the location where you are currently in.

The option should be in the core version as well. I don't remember disabling it for the core version.

Daniel

Here is the menu I have on backend

There is no "copy map" or "save as" menu.
Can you please advice there exactly this functon, backend or frontend? How do I get there?

As an alternative, can you please provide a workng example of javascript link I can put in the article, something like <a href="page.getObject(GoogleMap).setPosition(223,144; 145.12, 7)">Melbourne<"/a">

Ok, thanks a lot, get a link and understand it does not work in the same window...

will try to work out instructions with hidden menu, I don't understand it yet.

JS link operating on the map object will be much easier I think...

So, since this was complicated enough for some people - I decided to add an option that would allow to override any js variable that we use in hotspots. This would allow you to set any custom zoom, location or whatever parameter you like on a per menu basis. Here is the documentation of this feature:
compojoom.com/support/documentation/hotspots/ch05s08

Only available in the pro version.

Daniel
