TOPIC: Importing comments from 1.5 to 3.2

Hello Daniel,

I would like to import on a new 3.2 Joomla website the old comments and transfer them to different articles. If I do it copying the tables, which tables should I import on the database (only the jos_comment table or also all the related comment tables)? And I will have to manually change the article ID on each row to the new article right?
Will it create problems if I copy all the tables without changing the id (and therefore it will not find the articles ID of the past comments?

Hey Stefano,
On the 1.5 site what ccomment version are you using? I hope 4.2.1 - if you do, then the update should be easy. Just copy all the comment tables to the new 3.2 website and install the latest ccomment version after that. It should pick that the previous version was 4.2.1 and it will try to make all the necessary modifications to the tables.
If on the other hand you are using other version than 4.2.1, then you'll have some manual work. You'll need to do some table changes with phpmyadmin in order for the component to work as expected.

I'm using 4.0 RC1 version.

So basically I should install the 4. 2.1 version on the old website and then it will work?
Is there a way to find that version of your component?

4.2.1 is available to subscribers only. I can't make it public as in the past we had only 1 paid version and it would be unfair to the people who have paid for it. If you purchase a new subscription you'll have access to it. And with the subscription comes awesome support by me so even if you run into issues with the update - I've got your back.

oh I see. So basically there is no way to get the comments imported then?

I've explained several times on the forum how one needs to make the update. I also gave snippets with the code that needs to be entered into phpmyadmin.
