CMigrator is good however we have a large number of articles and I have realised that each images in every article will have to have its positioning reset to make the article display properly.

Also, the article captions do not appear properly in the front end (appear in brackets with html) and have to be redone.

Without the ability to retain format characteristics we honestly don't think it is feasible to convert from Wordpress to Joomla.

Does anyone know if this can be automated in some way? I am a relative noob.

Thank you

Hey Bryan,
Actually we are working on this. The next version will have an image and content parser options.
Once you migrate the content you have a parse content option that will go through all of the articles -> search for the images -> move them to the images folder.
In the content we are also going to remove the caption stuff, blockquotes, code etc.
<!--more--> will be replaced with the joomla equivalent so that you have proper intro and fulltexts. We are talking about the most basic stuff...

I don't think that it is a feasible challenge to fix all the possible combinations of formatting... At the end you will always need an editor to go trough the text and make sure that everything is ok...

Kind regards,
Daniel

P.S. next version is going to have user migration as well :)

Hi Bryan,

As Daniel said, new version will improve a lot of things. Only thing remain is image positioning, you will need to this by yourself (I was thinking to put all images on beginning of every article and put '<br />' after, but I am not sure is it that a good idea). In new version all 'class' and 'id' tags are erased. So, if you have something like this:
<p class="my-class">some text</p>
, part 'class="my-class"' will be erased and you will also have to add it again if you need it. It is good to know that all other css settings remain, so if you have something like this:
<p style="width: 100px;">some text</p>
, 'style="width: 100px;"' will not be erased.

Feel free to ask us anything!

Regards,
Petar

Hi Daniel and Petar,

Thank you very much for your prompt reply.

It is most encouraging to know a new version is on its way. I think will wait for that version to do my migration.

Do you have an approximate idea of when it will be available.

By the way, one of the things I like about CMigrator is the way the WP tables are imported into Joomla. Think about the logistics of converting from WP to Joomla - it could take weeks (depending on how much focus you can give to it) to complete the task. So during that time there is stuff getting updated all the time on the live WP site and you don't want to have to constantly be updating that stuff on the development site. But by being able to EXCLUDE from the WP import tables the posts etc that have already been fixed up in Joomla, you never have to worry. Does this make sense? I think it was very clever to design it that way. Well, I assume that's why you did it? If not, its a bi-product beenfit and is something that should be highlighted in the promotional material?

Anyway, thank you again. Please let me know when the new version is expected.

Hey Bryan,

You can expect new version after the weekend. I guess it will be released on Monday or Tuesday. We only need to add one more feature and I am sure it won't take more then a day or two.

Hi Petar,

That's fantastic. Can't wait because Wordpress just doesn't cut it as a serious CMS platform although it's good at what it does. With Joomla getting better and better there is no longer any compelling reason to use Wordpress in my view, - perhaps just for basic blogging.

I will do a review of the new release in the Joomla extensions directory. :)

Cheers,
Bryan

Hey Bryan,

We are nearly ready. However, we discovered some small problems in the installation and interface of the extensions. Once we've fixed them all, we are releasing! I think that should be in the next 24, but for us it is more important to release a bug free version, than to release it today.

Sorry for this. It is my fault. I didn't see those bugs on time. :)

Cheers, Peter
