I am working with a Wordpress blog (which I just imported from a blogspot blog) portraitcommission.net/wp/

I installed WP on the same server as the Joomla site: portraitcommission.net

I want to import the WP posts into this category blog, without overwriting anything: www.portraitcommission.net/index.php/blog

I have questions:

The Wordpress db tables that you try to import from need to be in the same database as the joomla tables! Otherwise the import is not going to work!

Right now the WP database is separate from the Joomla database. So I'm unclear how to merge the two before importing. Can you clarify?

When you import the categories from Wordpress we will keep the same category-> child relationship that they had. The post from Wordpress will be also associated with the same category as in Wordpress. In Wordpress you are able to assign several categories to one post. Joomla articles can have just one category, that is why when we import the post from Wordpress we just take the first assigned Wordpress category.

The posts are all uncategorized in WP. When I import them, I will assign them to the blog category in joomla. Is this a good plan?

You can use 'Clean migration' option to delete all of your previous data from your database. This function will delete all of your old articles*, categories*, users* and tags*!

I will deselect this so that I keep existing posts. Do you agree?

We use your base site URL while parsing, to create right source links for your images in your nodes or posts/pages. If you leave this field blank, only images with absolute paths will be parsed!
* Depends on your migration selection. For an example, if you don't select categories for migration, categories won't be deleted.

Hey Hope,
check the docs:
compojoom.com/support/documentation/cmigrator/ch03s03#idp9840

Set clean migration to no -> this way we won't delete the previous content in your joomla site. Also I want to advise you to make a backup of your existing site before the migration (everything happens and I don't want you to lose any data).

Regards,
Daniel

Thank you, Daniel. I have:
  1. backed up the site and the database
  2. installed wordpress on the server
  3. imported the blogspot database into Wordpress
  4. Exported the Wordpress database onto my hard drive
  5. imported the wordpress database into my joomla database

I am now creating a NEW CONFIGURATION. I see documentation on using configurations I've created, but I'm not seeing instructions on creating new ones.

So, my questions now are for the NEW CONFIGURATION screen:
  1. do I make up a Configuration name like WP to Joomla?
  2. REgarding the database prefix, I see two prefixes in my joomla database: euh_ and jpg_. Which do enter?
  3. (I understand to set the clean migration to NO, thanks for that advice)

By the way, I like to roll my cursor over the labels in my Joomla admin area to get tooltip hints. As far as I can see, there are none, so I got no tips which may have helped me answer my own questions.

1. the name is just for you so "WP to Joomla" is fine
2. the database prefix -> what is the wordpress prefix? What stands in front of the "posts" table? Ist it euh_posts or jpg_posts?

Tooltips are cool, we'll have to add some :)

Cheers,
Daniel

Thanks, Daniel,

The "posts" table prefix is jpg_. Do I include the underscore?

What does the BASE SITE URL refer to? Is it the root level domain for this site? www.portraitcommission.net ?

yes, you include the underscore.

Base site url is the url of your current wordpress website.

If your wordpress website is running from example.com and your joomla site is running on example1.com, then in base site url you need to enter example.com

Daniel

Hi Daniel,

thanks again for your support. I'm glad you're considering tooltips. They could have saved me from the last question.

Okay, so I ran the migration and all the WP tags turned into joomla categories. Many articles in Joomla were moved to incorrect categories. In other words major stuff happened. I deleted the site files, restored them from a backup, dropped all the tables out of my database and imported the pre-migration joomla database (which had the wordpress jpg_ tables included.)

Then I was unable to open CMigrator without getting an error. I uninstalled CMIgrator and reinstalled it.

I still get this error when trying to access CMigrator: Joomla!
404 - An error has occurred.
Component not found

I have:
  • cleared the browser cache,
  • purged the Joomla cache,
  • fixed the database,
  • emptied temp files,
  • optimized the tables
  • reinstalled joomla 2.5.11

I'm still unable to open the component. Gosh, I hate to say this because I do appreciate the support, but I'm beginning to feel that between the cost of the component and all this work, I would have been better off copying and pasting the 60 posts. :(

I just created an admin login for you and sent it to your email address. Can you look at this?

NEW NOTE: I've been making careful backups. I'm going to restore the site to before I installed CMigrator and try to start over.

Hey Hope,
don't give up hope :P

It is always difficult the first time. I would like to make the whole process as simple as possible, but currently this is the way it is.

The articles in Joomla should not be moved at all? Only imported articles can be moved to new categories.

If you don't want the migration to create the categories you just need to set the migrate categories option to "no". That way all articles will be moved into the uncategorized category. And from there you can move them wherever you need.

The 404 error shows that cmigrator is actually not installed. You can go to the extension manager -> go to manage and search for cmigrator. If you find something there uninstall it and install CMigrator again.

What are you using for the backups? Akeebabackup or are you making the backups yourself?

Regards,
Daniel

Thanks for trying so hard to help me, Daniel. I am sure you're right that it will work eventually but I'm too burned out to try it again. CMigrator and I are not destined for each other. B) I need to ask for a refund. We're going to copy and paste the posts. My client has hired some affordable help for that and other tasks.

Hey Hope,
Out of good will I just refunded you.
You & everybody else should understand that we are not selling you just the software, but the support as well. If you ask me for help I spent time looking into your issue.
Now that I've refunded you - it means for me that I've worked without getting paid. So it feels a little like being screwed...

Anyway... have a nice day.

Regards,
Daniel
