Hi there,

I'm wondering what the workflow is for migrating a WordPress blog to an existing Joomla website.

I can see that I have to set the 'Clean migration?' to "No" - but on your video, you recommended that it is set to yes.

If it is inadvisable to do it this way - can I, after migrating the blog to a clean install of Joomla, export the data and import it into my existing Joomla website?

Thanks in advance,

Rene

Hey Irene,
Why do you have to set "clean migration" to no? Are you migrating the WP site in an existing JOomla site?

The problem when doing a non-clean migration is that for each item we have to check if it already exist in the joomla database. So if you have 1000 articles to import then we'll perform 1000 checks to see if any of those already exists. Where with a clean migration we would swipe all your joomla content in advance and start the migration. This is way faster.

Regards,
Daniel

Hi Daniel,
While it may be faster, I'm also trying to import blog content into a existing Joomla site, so I cannot wipe my categories and content.
Is setting the "Clean Migration" to "No" the way to do this?
If it takes longer, that is OK, as long as it performs the migration, and doesn't remove my existing categories/content.
Thank you,
Lou

Yep, setting "clean migration" to no, should NOT delete any content on the existing joomla site. HOWEVER AS USUAL MAKE A BACKUP FIRST!

Thanks Daniel.
What is a reasonable amount of time for the migration to happen in this situation?
My migration seems to be stuck at the "Migration for Categories started" phase, even though the progress bar is at 100%.
Are there any other extensions that might interfere with the migration, such as Akeeba Admin Tools?
Thank you,
Lou

Hi Daniel,
My migration seems to hang and not get anywhere.
Is it possible to migrate just content into my existing Joomla site, without categories, tags, comments, etc?
My clients WP site is fairly simple, but does have a few hundred posts. They aren't categorized in WP.
Should I make a single uniquely named category in the WP site, assign all posts to it, then migrate?
Should I disable any security extensions (Akeeba AdminTools) before the migration?
This really needs to get done today, so any help is greatly appreciated.
Thank you,
Lou

Hey Lou,
Please post a private ticket and provide me with access to the site. I'll have a look and will let you know what's going on. One needs to look at the ajax responses in order to identify & fix the issue.

Daniel
