I got a internal server 500 error and when I disabled latest comments my site came back and the internal error message went away. Joomla comments work very well. I wondering did a commenter put some type of code in a comment because I never have gotten this before.

I have been using the latest comment for over a year now. Or could it be a bug. I need to have latest comment enabled. Any feed back would be appreciated.

Yes I see a 404 error also. It says Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request. I don't use 404 SEF as far as to my knowledge.

I using the 3.26 and latest comments version that came out with 3.26

Code 500 is commonly a permissions issue. Make sure all your folders are 755, NOT 777. Except some odd server installs will still need \media, \tmp and \logs to be 777. Also make sure all PHP files themselves are 644.

I updated about two weeks ago to 4.0 beta, and downloaded the latest comment module. it was working great until this morning the same problem came back.

So even with the new beta version of latest comments the problem still occurs. Two weeks and it was fine, now the same problem is back. I checked the permissions and they are sett correctly 755 and PHp files 644.

I notice when the mod comment is set at com_content this happens. I really like this plugin.

Hmmm this is indeed tricky, you seem to have a healthy Joomla install. It's possible a script junkie may have done something cheeky in a comment, but lets not jump to that yet.

It may be a misconfigured .htaccess file, try using the Joomla default. Otherwise we might have a bug in the Latest Comments module, unfortunately I can't replicate the problem myself so I have no idea what else to suggest :S

EDIT: Is your webhost on a Shared hosting plan? Hows' the system resources in your cPanel? I.e. RAM/CPU usage and number of running processes?

EDIT2: Do you have the $livesite variable set in Joomla's global configuration?

EDIT3: Do you have the ZakAuthor plugin? Try disabling it if you do. Try disabling all 3rd-party article plugins and see if it still happens.

@ Jonus C,

I went and unpublished comments that were added recently one by one and yes there was this one comment that caused the problem. As soon as I unpublished it the latest comments module stated working again with no error messages. So it was a cheeky script in a comment.

I looked at the comment and all I saw was bbcode's B, i, and some links. Is there a way to stop this type of stuff from happening again? Even when I turned off bbcode the INTERNAL ERROR message 404 was still there until I unpublished the comment.

I'm glad Jonus found out what it was this time.

I knew something like this was going to happen eventually.

Do you think it's possible I get a dump of the table row for this specific comment? I hope you havn't deleted it. And I'd like to see what is in the database for that comment, looks like someone found a sneaky hole. Luckily your webhost is setup well, Apache threw out a 500 Error because it detected a naughty action I reckon.

If you can send me the SQL dump of the specific comment, please PM me your email so you can send it to me there (don't upload it here).
