TOPIC: Notify Authors about comments on their Articles Feature request

i am running JoomlaComment on my joomla 1.5 i want to feature like when some write comment on article, Author get email notification

Unfortunately it's a lot harder than it sounds. Daniel is working on it, it requires a lot of code changes as the E-Mail addresses need to be stored in the database table for one.

Thanks for the reminder though, this is indeed a well sought-after feature.

I see can't do this for authors but what about an administrator account that is configured to always get emailed on new comments?

I'd like this just to be aware of new comments mainly so I can respond and check it is not spam.

Sadly, glenn, no there is not an option to "just subscribe" to comments - you need to make a comment first.

Daniel, if I were to write a new article, then comment on that article setting notify to 'yes', then delete my comment after - will I still stay subscribed to email updates?

I subscribe myself to this feature request, it would be a big addition. I have a user generated content website (recipes), the article database grows quickly and users can't track feedback on their articles. This feature would make them return to the site so much often. Right now they are spontaneously discussing articles in the forum, the comments are useless for them because they have to run around all their articles to check for comments.

I was hoping to get an easy hack in this one. I suppose there is no way of hacking the code so when it subscribes the user of the first comment it also subscribes the author ($this->content->author), or that when it sends an e-mail to the subscriber it also does to the author. Sorry for the intrusion .

It's not an intrusion, don't apologize. The thread is very old yes but I suppose it'd be good to update on the progress...

Basically, 4.0 is already in Release Candidate phase so it is feature frozen, bugfixes and optimizations only (apart from the slide templates I am still working on, trying to get them compatible with all browsers). So, this is a feature that is planned for 4.1 because we need to make lots of major changes to support this kind of thing which will definitely add more bugs and we want to keep 4.0 stable.

And to be honest, at the current rate of donations and our personal work schedules, I can't give any time frame. So, no progress yet, just "soon".

I take it author notification has not yet been implemented? I haven't found anything in the backend to turn such a thing on- but maybe I'm missing something?

I would love to have it. In fact, users on my site are complaining that they don't get notifications when comments are left on their article. I don't blame them! What's the time-line?
