1. Joomla 1.6 will have a built in comment system, but what about people using joomlacomment will these joomlacomment comments automatically show up in Joomla 1.6 if one disables joomlacomment, and use the default comment system in 1.6?

2. Or will there be a need for an export comments from joomlacomments to the default 1.6 commenting system?

3. Will it be possible if someone was using the default commenting system in 1.6, and then decides to switch to using the joomlacomment system to see the comments show up in joomlacomment once it is activated?

Hey James,
Joomla 1.6 doesn't even have an alpha version yet and you are worrying what will happen with your comments - take it easy man!

Let us see the alpha first :)

One is sure: joomlacomment will work on joomla 1.6 :)

The let us wait to the third of August. It is not possible to release it in stable mode on the third of august without releasing an alpha and then a beta.

Joomla 1.6 breaks a lot of existing 1.5 extensions apparently. I think the official extension site will therefore have three compatibility graphics on extension listing -

1. Joomla 1.0 Native
2. Joomla 1.5 (Native or Legacy)
3. Joomla 1.6 (Native or Legacy)

...i'm just guessing though, I don't hang around the official J! forums too much. All I know is that J! v1.6 has the new version of MooTools (1.22 or 1.3 or something) which is not backwards compatible with current J1.5 MooTools, so quite a few extensions and templates will have to be edited/hacked/re-written to work with the new Joomla.

BTW, how good is the new in-built Commenting system anyway? Is it more powerful than JoomlaComment? That would be sad :(

Well, the only way to try out joomla 1.6 is to use the svn repository. I'm still waiting on alpha.

Ok, I've installed the alpha:
joomlacode.org/gf/project/joomla/frs/?ac...&frs_package_id=3585

No comment system there! I tried to install joomlacomment4.0beta2 on it, but it failed, cause in 1.6 there is no jos_plugin table anymore - everything seems to be stored in the jos_extension.

Well until we have a beta I don't plan to implement the comment system for it :)

Thanks for the feed back. Also it is very good to know that joomlacomment and latest comments are an alternative to the future joomla built in comment system.

Joomla will have a built in comment system when 1.6 is realdsed they have said so. It will be the Jxtended comment system, but Joomla comments will still be needed.

Not everyone will want to use the default 1.6 comment system. The Joomla comment system is the best so far of all the commenting systems for joomla, so as an alternative to the built in comment system joomla comment and latest cokmments will still be needed.

Just in case something goes wrong with the built in comment system there will always be a need for joomla comments and latest comments.

Joomla 1.6 built in comment system and Joomla comments more than likely will be the two major commenting systems for joomla. It would not suprise me if many of the other commenting systems cease development because of 1.6 commenting system and the popularity of joomla comment among users.

These two will more than likely be the top commenting systems. So far I have seen no other commenting systems and latest comments equal to joomla comments. Joomla comments will be the most popular alternative to the 1.6 built in commenting system.

It is good to have two alternatives.
