Is there a way to export comments, or can there be one added, so you can backup your comments to be added back later under another version just in case something goes wrong.

No, there is no such a function, but you can always make a backup of the tables trough phpmyadmin.

I could use an export function too. I see the posting was a couple of years ago. Is there an export function now or is it still necessary using phpMyAdmin?
