Site users have tried to comment on articles and are having issues. The component works well in Firefox. In Safari and IE the fields are filled in and click the send button. After this happens the "wheels spin" as if the component is processing the information. This lasts for a while and then times out with no submission. I have version 4.0 alpha 3. Any help is greatly appreciated.

Would you give us a link to your site Tim? It sounds like a javascript problem to me.

ok, I got the message, that the comment is waiting approuval with IE8. Which version of IE do you use anyway?

Did you make any changes to the template? I see that you don't show the "made with" text - how did you hide it? Did you remove it, or you did it as described in the faq section?

I used IE7 to submit it. I made a couple textual changes to the template and language file to reflect the purpose of the comment component. I can't remember how I removed the "made with" text (maybe through the faq method) although I have donated.

Can you tried with a standard joomlacomment file - one that is not modified from you(also with a standard language file). If it is working then, then you have made something wrong while modifying those files.

I will give it a try. The standard joomlacomment file that your are referring to is the "media/myjosctemplates/mydefault-emotop/index.html" or is it in "joscomment/templates/default-emotop/index.html"?

the template in media is your edited template. Use the other one.

Hmmm. Not working. I think that I will just reinstall. Can I retrieve the comments before reinstall?

if you uninstall the comment should be left untouched. Just make sure that you have the option complete uninstall set to 0.

Also please make a database dump of joomlacomment, just in case anything goes wrong.

Using the Modern template on Beta1, I have had 100% success with Posting and Editing comments with Firefox 3.5 RC, Opera 9, Chrome, IE8 and Safari.

I'm sure a reinstall will fix it :)

During my template redesigning lately though, I found that changing certain {zone} order of things in the submission form for the template did break the comment system, resulting in the exact same error you're talking about. So it might have well been your template ;)

Ok. I installed the 4.0 beta1 and set the template to Modern as prescribed. No dice though, I am now back to the original problem. Works in FFX, but not in IE or Safari. The only thing that I didn't do was the database dump. How do I go about doing that? Also, in IE 7 after you submit the comment, the wheels spin forever and IE displays an "Error on page" display (see attached).

Ok, give me a link to your webpage. It seems that you have some javascript conflict with another extension or so.

Hey Tim,
I was thinking today - you've installed beta1 - that is fine. But since you haven't deleted the tables in the database you use the old settings.
So did you specifically choose the modern template in content settings or you just tried it if it is working after you installed beta1?

I chose modern from the "Layout" tab after the install. Attached are the settings.
