I tested !JoomlaComment v3.26 with my Joomla! 1.0.15 installation today. My testing website is in Chinese language and utf-8 encoding.

I had enabled AJAX in the backend of this component.

When posting new comment in Chinese language, there will pop-up an window and show me following error message:

There are Invalid characters in the message.

I checked what it shows and found this component can't handle Chinese punctuation and line wrap properly.

Though there is an error message, in fact the comment was submited and published. But these are some characters can't be shown correctly inside the published comment.

Please fix this.

Thanks.

What is the database collation that you use?
Was that the exact message: "There are Invalid characters in the message." I can not find such a text.

I use utf8_general_ci as the database collation.

That sentence was shown in Chinese language, I can't find it in the language file either. So I think it may be the Javascript error message for AJAX ?

I translated that message to "There are Invalid characters in the message" . It was shown in a pop-up window.

Please look in the Chinese language file and tell me to what Constant it is ordered to, so I can look in the files and find out why such a message shows.

In fact, I had already did that search in the language file. But no match.

The original error message in Chinese is "文本内容中发现无效字符" .

I suggest you test this component v3.26 with inputing following Chinese words as a comment :

I was using IE7 browser.

Thanks.

Hm, funny enough - I don't get any error message and the comment is published, but there are 7-8 characters as ? (in this post I only see 3)

Yes, I also got those Chinese words posted, but there would be a pop-up error message and strange symbols in the comment message.

I also did another test: I tried to post those Chinese words on a English version of Joomla!. There still came the same pop-up error message. So I think that message is not from your component, but from the same Browser software - IE7 .

You see, you also get some ??? marks. That means this component can't handle Chinese characters properly.

Please try to fix this.

Thanks.
