TOPIC: Latest Comment URL issues

Hi guys,

I have an issue with Latest Comment, that seems a bit different than what I have found searching your forum. I'd love any advice on this.

I use joomla 1.0.13. I have the built in joomla SEF turned on. I have the Latest Comment module turned on (had it at least turned on...turned it off for now).

Here is what a normal url to my article looks like:
www.mysite.com/content/view/262/38/

Here is what the url's that latest comment are showing look like:
www.mysite.com/index.php?option=com_cont...mment_id=434#josc434

The problem here is that search engines (google) are indexing the latest comment url, which is bad. This url should look like the normal url. If google indexes both, then there is the problem of duplicate content, duplicate urls, and all sorts of other very bad SEO things. Because of this, I can't run the Latest Comment module.

Is there a way to fix this, perhaps something I don't have setup right, etc...? Any help would be great.

And by the way, you folks have done a great job with this software. Excellent piece!

I'm really sorry about this problem. There are several users that report the same - just search the forum. The problem so far is that we cannot find what is wrong with the function that makes the urls. If you know some php, please look at the content plugin. We are doing our best to find out why this is not working!

Thanks Daniel. I don't have a ton of php experience - most of my coding is done in J2EE java stuff.

I appreciate that you are looking into it. I'm excited to get it working. I'll also try to look into the code to see if there is anything I can deduce.

I just went into the code for the Latest Comments module and hacked together the joomla 1.0 sef url. Luckily I only display comments in the lastest comment module, from one of the sections of my site, so this will work and was very easy. It will last, as long as I don't change the menu item in joomla, or the way the url's are made on the site....in other words, it is a hack that will work for now, but at least makes the module useable for anyone who wont even use it because of the duplicate content url issues. If I decide to change the way url's are made on my site, I'll need to remember to update the hack. Hopefully it will at least last me until the experts release an official way of doing this.
