TOPIC: Categories description

Hi Daniel,

Right now I am using 16 categories and the number is increasing. As I mentioned in another post, my clients need to see all the categories at the same time, with the description as well.

Once you select a marker you get a checkbox - show all tabs on map.

I will be more specific with an example.

I will have motels, hotels, and bed and breakfast (and other ones) as categories. I will need 3 different markers (in this case), and I will need the description beside the marker to identify each of the markers.

That's why i was pointing to http://www.dodge-caliber.ru/index.php/howtofind2 because this guy is using markers + description as categories, and not only icon (like hotspot 2.0) or http://www.mapquest.com/

Right now you can use template overrides and override the default layout. This means that you can show your categories + category name if you want.

In one of the next version I'll provide the option to use templates(like the ones you have in K2 or jomsocial). So it will be even easier to do whatever you want.

The standard view of Hotspots 2.0 is just that - a standard view. The component is GPL, the code is not encrypted and you can easily modify it to suit your needs.

I like mapquest more than your example, because it was really clear for me from the first second that if I click the checkbox - I'll see all categories in the tabs. It is much more intuitive in my opinion.

And instead of going for 1000s of categories, we have to think how to make the search for hotspots more intuitive. I'm not going to browse trough your 1000s of categories. I'll need something specific and I want to find it with 1 search term and 1 click, and not trough checking category A,B,C,D etc. What are your thoughts?

If you include a search bar close to the icons, then I will shut up my mouth. Right now the search function is hidden inside the right popping up menu, making really hard to find something if you are using 30 different categories. I believe will be easier if you separate into different events the search for directions, the search for address and the search for hotspots. Three different icons on top that will call these events separately.
