Future feature requests: Being able to not only add markers but also the use of polygons to mark area's for different purposes. Also make adding a bit easier by using a sidebar module where you can drop and drop the different category icons from on the map, and fill in the rest op open fields as a popup balloon on the map (instead of the add marker tab)

Pushing my luck, I know. But just trowing those ideas out there.

You are not pushing your luck.
Polygon support is on my mind since a lot of time, but as you see beta2 is still not out.

We need to first get the exisitng featuers to work in 100% of the situations then we can build further.
dev.compojoom.com/issues/show/137

I'm not quite sure that I understand your module idea???

Ah, So you want to have a pin, place it on the map - it will be populated with the street data and then you havea pop up where you have to add additional info like description and click save.

I've seen this in the google wave bot. Hm, yep I like it!!!

So, is polyline and/or polygon a new coming feature?

If we go to hotspot admin panel we can find:

Locations(hotspots) | Categories | Import | Configuration | Information | Live update |

We can add a new tab Polygon and/or Polyline where we can set up all the details about the tab. Something like:

Locations(hotspots) | Polygons | Polylines | Categories | Import | Configuration | Information | Live update |

Example1
In the above example, you can draw polygons, and polylines. Also, you can get the length of the polylines, and the area for the shape created with polygons.

Example 2
In the above example, you can draw polygons, and polylines. Also, you can type a title, and a description for the polygon area & polyline, as well.

Example3
In the above example, you can find a useful tool to play around with polygons, polylines (KML), etc

Example 4
The above example could be a really good application for polygons. The only problem I've found so far with this example is:
if click on any parcel on the map, and select "Nearest..." tab, you will find all the nearest "things" around the property, but if you click on any of them, the actual infowindow and marker is closed to open the new hotspot. It could be better if the property marker & infowindow remain on the map while showing the new marker as well.

Yes, this is still something that I want to have.

The problem I see is with the identity of Hotspots - is it a "places" component, is it a directory is it a polygon tool, what is it? I mean - should we show those polygons in a category? If yes what do we do with the marker clusterer?

Right now I think that we have to focus our focus on the location stuff of Hotspots. Add more features that will allow you to use the component as a directory and once we are done there, concentrate on other features that the API offers - such as polygons..

Cheers,
Daniel

I see hotspots as a directory, at least it's the way i am using it. But it's still missing important keys.

Polygons applications:
- Parks (using the polygons you can show the limits of the park)
- Parcels / Lots (for Real State businesses selling parcels / lots)
- To show cities / town / properties limits
- To show areas you are allow to fish, hunt, biking, etc

Yes, those polygons should be in any category, and should have infowindows (same as the markers)

I i wanna use a marker to locate a park, i can use it. Or if i wanna use the polygon to show the park, i can use it.
I can use one, or the other one depending of my purposes.

Markers and polygons will be sometimes under the same category, depending of the purpose. Example: "Parks". I could show parks using polygons, and I could show parks using only markers. Both cases will be under the category "Parks".

I'm also interested in that feature. Polygons could be assigned to categories or could be shown as "views" of a map. Could be loaded also as KML files. As said by Eliecer Marchante, so could be shown parks, parcels, city limits, areas.

Our download section has a "development releases area" There you can find the current alpha build that will soon transform into hotspots 3. It already has KML support so I think that this will make you guys happy. (for the KML to work hotspots has to be installed on a webpage (not on localhost))

The current version is still not ready for production use! So please just test it out and report the problems to me - I already know of a lot of them :) and I'm working to make everything smooth and goooooood :)

Cheers,
Daniel

compojoom.com/downloads scroll to the bottom and in RED you should see the dev releases. DON'T USE ON PRODUCTION sites... I'm working on some bug fixes today as I saw that the latest dev version broke some code...
Cheers,
Daniel
