Hi there,

Today I upgraded from version 3.5.4 to 5.0.4. The upgrade went allright and in the backend everything works perfectly; only not in the frontend.
The problem only occurs in the 2nd level of a categorie on my website, for example:
www.myexample.com => no errors
www.myexample.com/category => no errors
www.myexapmle.com/category/subcategory => Fatal error: Call to a member function getChildren() on a non-object in /home/mctest/html/components/com_hotspots/helpers/utils.php on line 285
The odd thing is, that I don't show any maps in www.myexcample.com/category/subcategory ...

If I disable the plugin "Content - Hotspots" everything works correctly, except that I can't show a map in the article.

Do you have any ideas what can be causing this?

Kind Regards,

Erwin

Hey Erwin,
Category/subcategory ? What is this structure? Is this made with the menu? What links are those? to the map view?

Regards,
Daniel

Hi Daniel,

For example, see it on:
www.bikermotorradhotels.de/ => allright
www.bikermotorradhotels.de/deutschland.html => allright
www.bikermotorradhotels.de/deutschland/eifel/ => problem occurs, fatal error.

Please note that these are live urls and these runs with the old version which runs fine. However, in my internal test environment I have an exact copy of the website in order to test these things, the problem there pops up. But this should give you an overview of the used structure.
How ever if I disable the plugin "Content - Hotspots" the problem is gone.

Also, as mentioned earlier, in the URL: www.bikermotorradhotels.de/deutschland/eifel/ , all the hotspots librarys are loaded, but I don't use any map there...

If you would like, I can give you the login-info for the test environment so you can see it yourself, just send me a PM.

Kind Regards and thank you,

Erwin

What is deutschland and what is eifel? Are those categories, or joomla articles? How do you show hotspots on this page? Do you load it in a module position, do you use the hotspots - anywhere plugin or how do you do it?

Daniel

Hi Daniel,

Thanks for your reaction, to answer your questions:
- deutschland is a categorie, it only contains plain text and images and it shows all the (nested/sub) categories that belongs to deutschland. For example, eifel, schwarzwald, bayern and so on.
- eifel is a subcategorie of deutschland and it shows the articles (hotels and campings) that belongs to eifel. Also, this subcategorie only contains text and images, no map in here.
- if you click further on a hotel, there it shows a map using the hotspots content plugin, for example hotspots hotspot=248}

Hope this makes it a little bit clear,

Kind Regards,

Erwin

Ah, so the map on the subpage created with the content - hotspot doesn't load? Am I understanding this correctly?

Daniel

Hi Daniel,

Yes and no, partly ;)
the subpage does not contain any maps, the article page below the subpage contains a map.

www.bikermotorradhotels.de => Main page
www.bikermotorradhotels.de/deutschland => Category page from Joomla, the page just lists the nested categorys. Contains NO map.
www.bikermotorradhotels.de/deutschland/eifel => (Sub/nested) Category page, the page just lists the articles belonging to the category. Contains NO map. Here the FATAL error occurs with the new version of HotSpots.
www.bikermotorradhotels.de/deutschland/e...torradhotel-gus.html => Article page, contains a map

Let me know if this makes a little bit more clear,

Kind Regards,

Erwin

Hey Erwin,
So, I tried to reproduce this and I couldn't. However I have a suspicion. Could you investigate the following.
Open the article and look at the hotspot id that you are trying to load.
Then go to the locations in the backend and search for this id. You could type id:123 to find the hotspots with id 123

Look at this hotspot - what is the category? Is this category existing at all?

Regards,
Daniel

Hi Daniel,

Thanks for looking at it, too bad you can't reproduce it...
I did what you said and the hotspots but the category is correct and exists.

However I found an other odd thing, the sub/category (eifel) contains 16 articles. If I depublish all the articles, it works corectly and I dont have any error.
If I publish 1 article it works correctly.
If I publish 2 or more article the error is back.

Hope that this can help you a little bit.

Kind Regards,

Erwin

Okay, it's now fixed for you. (Kinda hacked it :))
I'm not sure what the correct fix is right now: groups.google.com/forum/#!topic/joomla-dev-general/WC0EI0NTiRE
But will try to figure it out for the next version so that you won't have to deal with this again.

Daniel

Hi Daniel,

Currently I wanted to update to 5.1.3, but still gets this error:

Fatal error: Call to a member function getChildren() on a non-object in /home/mctest/html/components/com_hotspots/helpers/utils.php on line 308

Is the fix already in this release of hotspots? Or is this an other error?

Kind Regards,

Erwin

I thought that my fix was already in joomla 3.4:
issues.joomla.org/tracker/joomla-cms/6440

We'll have to again hack around then... please open a private ticket.

Daniel
