Using v4.1.1 on J!3.3.
Set up some basic custom fields and assigned to a category.
Using K2, the extra fields are not displayed in backend or frontend forms.

Am I missing something?

Hey Simon,
So you have configured the custom fields in Hotspots and you have configured them in K2. Now you want that the k2 fields also show in hotspots as custom fields or what do you mean?
I haven't implemented k2 custom field to hotspots custom field mapping yet.

Regards,
Daniel

Hi Daniel,

Maybe I have missed understood the use of extra fields in Hotspots.

Yes, I have configured custom fields in Hotspots and they appear in the K2 editor in the backend, but do not get displayed in the front end.
I was expecting that they would appear, below maybe the address fields in Hotspots.
Is that not the case?

Simon

Wait, if you have configured the custom fields in Hotspots, those will be displayed in Hotspots, not in k2.
When you create a hotspot in the backend, then under the editor you'll see the custom fields. In the frotnend when the user goes to single view, he will also see the custom fields.

Daniel

Hi Daniel,

In this case, I have misunderstood.

On the Sunny Worthing project, we are not using the hotspots views, only K2.
K2 items show the Hotspot map and address fields, and my expectation was that the Hotspot custom fields would appear with the address field in the K2 item.

The only reason I am playing with customs fields is mainly down to making the K2 editor form (itemform.php) more user friendly as the Hotspot Map and Fields appear below the text editor and users did not see the map data.
I had modified the itemform.php and put the HotSpot map and address fields into their own tab, however, this broke the code somewhere and the map would not display correctly and was a bit glitchy.

Maybe a minor edit is needed to the documents to clarify that the custom fields will only appear in the Hotspot editor and will not appear in K2,?

Lets close this down.

Thanks for the explanation though.

Hey Simon,
If you only use hotspots to show a map in the k2 items, then why don't you create k2 custom fields? You obviously don't need anything else from hotspots, or am I still missing something?

Daniel

Hi Daniel,

Yes, I do use K2 custom fields.
For me it is not a problem to create new items "events"
The problem is, the site is open to anyone to submit new "events" in K2.
They have no experience in Joomla let alone K2.

In K2, the editor is a bit unuser friendly.
Title, for event in one place.
Date, used to set the event start and unpublish date in another.
Then the map is below the content editors, so easily missed and K2 extra fields are in another tab.

Like I said, I have made a custom itemform.php, hidden standard K2 fields that the user does not need to complete, such as title alias and featured etc.
My layout moved the map from below the content editors into its own tab, but this meant that the address was added in the map, whilst K2 extra fields were used to collect extra event details.
Although this was an improvement, the downside was the map did not function quite correctly in the fronted, whilst backend was fine.

For me, it is all about trying to make item submissions as clean and simple for contributors, that really have no web experience at all.

I even went to lengths of adding onhover tooltips to explain exactly what was needed in each field, but even that does not help stubborn users.

So I thought, why not remove all K2 extra fields and use the Hotspot custom fields. Now I know how this works, I know it cant be done.

I have a plan to redesign the form again, to make it super clean and simple. So I will ping over some screenshots when it is done.
