TOPIC: Error during install

Hello,

I have just recently downloaded Hotspots but cannot get it installed.
When I try to install Hotspots this message comes up:

I hate stuff like that...
Try to open the ZIP package, and upload it to your tmp directory via FTP.
-Make sure it is the only thing there... and then install from the second option in the install menu, which as you will see directs to the tmp directory.

im new to joomla, can you help me by explaining what those errors mean?

Well, it seems like you have a writing rights issue.
Check backend under Help -> System Info -> directory permission, everything there should be writeable.

jsut checked, everythings writable...

Ok... if you are on a Linux Apache, then I think you can right click on the tmp directory, and change it to 777.
I believe this is a CHMOD thing, even though everything is writable... I have searched the Joomla Forums quickly just now, and it seems others with the same problem have had writing issues.

If you are on IIS, then your Server manager (or whoever handles it) can fix it.

Interesting... I just read somewhere else, that they recommended 755 as the CHMOD setting for the tmp directory...
Try both, see what works... I think... but I'd recommend 755 I guess thinking of security issues... not sure though. :/

bummer, because all that sounds gibberish to me.

i have ftp access but i host my sites through 1and1.com ...dont know anything about linux apache or chmod really.

Right click on the directory, and at the bottom you will see Properties. Click that, and you should see a set of 3 by 3 tick boxes.
Somewhere toward the bottom (if I remember correct) it should have these numbers (i.e. 755 or something).
Then just click the empty boxes to change properties according to what you need/want.

However, it may not be this either... This thread shows what others have done

ok so i did that, it was already at 755, so i changed it to 777 and then tried to reinstall Hotspots and got the same error messagesv

Read that thread I sent... there were a few other solutions there concerning FTP settings, Config file etc.
I am also wondering about that "Disk quota exceeded in ..." message you got... I assume you DO have enough space.
Must get some shut-eye now...
