Hi there,

Thanks for a great module!
I just have a question: what is the easiest way to set up a different fields to let the users of your website to choose when they want to submit a new spot.(example of something that I'm looking for - locations.splocs.com/kitesurf/add.html )

Warmly,
Andrey

P.S: I'm sorry I post this question in a wrong directory:/ However, I don't see the options to move it...

Hey Andrey,
I'm sorry, but Hotspots is currently not able to have custom fields. What you see in your edit form is everything that you will get.

Kind regards,
Daniel

Thanks for a quick reply! I saw it, but it's not that hard for me to change the code at the component. I was just thinking may be someone did this already?

One of the options that I'm thinking about is to add a HotSpot via SobiPro component and set up the cron jobs to import this location on a HotSpot map daily.

Why not write a joomla plugin that inserts the data in Hotspots when a user creates something in sobiPro?

Daniel

P.S. I'm thinking of writing such thing for Hotspots 3 so It would be awesome if you could share your code :)

That sounds good!

I will definitely share the code. However, it might be to specific for my needs. We will see.

I have one more question: the google map on your component is runned by mootools, so when the jQuery is enabled the google map is not shown. Is this true? or there is a different problem?

That is not true :)
You can have jquery on the same page, but jquery should be run in noConlict mode + you will have to deal with the js conflicts.

There are a lot of people running Hotspots with Mootools and Jquery on the same page - I think that it is really stupid, but a lot of joomla components don't leave you any choice.

Cheers,
Daniel

Hey Andrey!
What's up with that plugin? Did you manage to write it?
I've actually refactored a big part of the code for hotspots 3 and we have now the possibility to create links to sobiPro, k2 and any component out there for which we create a plugin. (I've also corrected the import function to now import from sobiPro instead of sobi2)

Actually I would like to add a sobiPro plugin that would add sobipro entry to the hotspots database. Did you make any progress on this?

If you want to test the development version:
compojoom.com/downloads/dev-hotspots/git77a9673
(DON'T USE ON PRODUCTION SITES - IT IS NOT READY YET)

Of course! I would love to hear comments about it. Keep in mind that it has not yet earned the alpha status yet :) (well at least I don't call it alpha yet)

I too run, Sobipro on my development site. Perhaps I'm not understanding what Hotspots does exactly, but in my mind the idea extension here would be one that allows you to engage the native Jomsocial event creation functionality and incorporate Sobipro for the locations and Hotspots for the "check-in" functionality.

An example of the flow would be:

- Sobipro contains an existing directory of locations. Leverage the Sobipro functionality for creation of this directory.
- Jomsocial has the ability to create events and it is well established and integrated with Joomla already. All it needs is the ability to include Sobipro items as the locations without using a hokey external URL to do this.
- Hotspots allows mobile users to "check in" to a Jomsocial event (based on the Sobipro directory of locations) with varying levels of geographic accuracy (100m, 1km etc) if there is an event. If there is no *event* simply allow the ability to "check in" at a Sobipro directory location, similar to what Facebook, Meetup, etc do.

I know that not everyone uses Sobipro as a directory for geographic locations, but I do so this would be a pretty cool feature to have!
