Hi!

I have a 4.0 alpha3 version of Joomla Comment installed on my website and would like to upgrade it to the 4.0.0RC1 version.

A simple attempt to install 4.0.0RC1 on the server didnt work because com_comment folder already existed.

What is the best way to upgrade my component?

If I delete the com_comment folder via FTP and install the 4.0.0RC1 version afresh, wouldt the comments on the website remain intact? Please advice.

No just uninstall the old version and install the new one.
Make sure that joomlacomment->content settings->complete uninstall is set to no. If it is set to no - then the comments will stay untouched!
