dunno what you are asking. everything works if comments is turned off. I've already told and showed you I have formatting problems when it's turned on. I'm looking for the ability to edit the size of the comments gadgets to see if that fixes the problem. alternative right now is to drop comments or find another comments extension that doesn't conflict. I think it's all about spacing.

Well I was asking where we are upto with fixing is all. What has been solved, and what we still need to fix.
I took a look at the original link you posted , and it seems to me you havn't done anything i've suggested yet. And I can't see a green box, both are blue. Please go back to the very long and detailed post I made about the CSS and Joomla Template errors and try to do them first. Then if possible, please switch to the Modern template in JoomlaComment so we can eliminate every possible culprit - then we can work from there. I know it doesn't make sense right now but it's important to eliminate every error in order to narrow it down. I don't understand what you mean by 'gadgets', but everything can be modified in the JoomlaComment template you are using via standard CSS and HTML code in a text editor. |

I guess you didn't visit the website.
nothing has been solved other than turning off comments which fixes everything. I tried your suggestions on the "caption" which made no difference. In any event captions only refers to the caption under the photo, not the alignment on the right of the photo. The other issues are not germane here, as it works fine if comments are turned off. I plan to look closer at the code but it's irrelevant to me if it works with comments turned off. Can I modify the size of the comments gadget or not? That's the only question on the table from my POV. Otherwise I will just lose the comments on this site for now. thanx Lee |

Lee, can you actually read what I say or what? I visited
this page
again for the third time now and I see you've just disabled the right hand navigator thing and nothing else has changed. If you're going to continue to trust your own random ideas instead of even considering or trying our advice, then yeah maybe you should try the less capable and non-free alternative.
I don't mean to be rude, obviously we're just having a breakdown of communication.
Sorry, but you're plain wrong there. I used Firebug to adjust the right-margin on the img.caption class in the CSS in realtime and it fixed the spacing on the text. OK, that's one thing out of the way. Repeat what I originally said, clear your cache then refresh. As I already said, I have no idea what you mean by gadget. Here I go to upload an image to guess what you mean by gadget... EDIT: Sorry you will have to manually visit this link to see the image because Kunena is having another tantrum - Screenshot If that is what you want to do, it's not a problem with JoomlaComment. NO other commenting system will do this because you need to edit your actual Joomla template. The component only occupies the mainBody part of Joomla and the bar on the right, which is probably the 'right' module position in your Joomla template, is occupying the rest. This is Joomla behavior 'by design' and the only way to fix that is to put that right module position as a nested layer INSIDE the mainbody div layer, then justify the mainbody content. In regards to the conflict with your navigation box that was on the right, I already mentioned it appears to be a conflict with MooTools. Hence, why I said, please try swithing to a JQ-{whatever} theme in JoomlaComment or better yet the verified-working modern one, just temporarily to see if that fixes the navigation slider on the right so we can eliminate the cause. Before you reply, yes you can call me a jerk or a rude person, it doesn't phase me. Because i'm still here, helping you, and if you want to throw it back in my face for being a little frustrated with having to tell you the same thing three times then that's your choice sir. But I won't give up, despite being a member of CompoJoom and not being paid a dime when I could be playing World of Warcraft or still at the pub right now. (It's 11pm Sat night here in Sydney). Yes I understand I need to be more professional, and i'm sorry Daniel if this is giving you a bad name but hey - at least i'm not just locking this thread (which I considered). Please just try what I suggested. If you do not want to deal with my poor advice anymore than feel free to wait for Daniels' suggestions instead. [Note to self - Try to learn to be more polite and tolerant, and to not give support after having a few beers] |

OK I edited that about a million times but i'm just replying now to say that I re-read it twice and it's my final edit
I apologize in advance Lee, of course it is nothing personal at all. I do hope we can get to the bottom of the troubles you have on your site. |

I admire and appreciate your dedication. And I do owe you an apology for not realizing what you meant the first time that you suggested switching to an SQ template. That went right by me the first time given all the other stuff before it. As someone new to your extension I really didn't understand the difference between SQ and MT and whatever other flavors there are. I did try them all initially but reverted to MT based on a comment Daniel made without realizing that was going to cause problems for me. It was clear to me what you meant in the last email, and switching that made everything work. Without even changing the caption margins, although I had already tried a variety of combinations. So it's working, thank you. For the record I had not turned off the right hand slider gadget. Rather the link you were using was truncated. www.buoyantlife.net/index.php?option=com...:sausalito&Itemid=99 Not www.buoyantlife.net/index.php?option=com...rdson-bay&catid=37:s Re caption margins I had actually gone through this pretty thoroughly, and just repeated the whole process prior to seeing your note to switch to JQ. Complicated by the fact that the code had an extra number than the one you gave me. I used my cpanel dashboard to to go to templates/gk_car_magazine/css/joomla_classes.cs
line 202 actually read
img.caption { margin:0 0 3px 0!important; width:auto !important;
not [code}margin:0 0 3px !important;[code} See the extra character? Per your model I changed it to
margin:0 8 3px !important;
which brought the bottom text even closer and did not change the right hand spacing. I also tried
margin:0 8 3px 0 !important;
and
margin:0 8 3px 8 !important;
and
margin:0 0 3px 8 !important;
always clearing the cache and then refreshing. None of these settings made any difference other than the initial tightening on the bottom I just mentioned. After switching to JQ I went back and experimented again. Nothing seemed to make any difference so I reverted to the original, which now works fine. I had also looked at it in firebug, by the way, where I saw the following code: <img class="caption" height="299" border="0" align="left" width="390" title="Click for larger interactive Google Map" alt="Map of Richardson Bay" src="/images/stories/sausalito/rbaymap3.jpg"/> with a reference to the same page you sent me to ijoomla_classes.css (line 202) mg.caption { width:auto !important; } I did not, however, see any references to actual numbers, or anywhere to test changing them so don't understand how you did that. Finally, In reference to the last picture you posted, no I did not want to extend it across the page. Just the opposite. I wanted to make it smaller so that it didn't fill up the space. The reason I wanted to do that was because past experience has shown me that the slider gadget does not work if it's crowded beyond it's alloted space, and I thought that was happening. Hope you enjoyed your night on the town. I had just returned from a pretty lively session at the bar when I posted my last message about 2:30 AM myself. Lee
templates/gk_car_magazine/css/joomla_classes.cs line 202 actually read
img.caption { margin:0 0 3px 0!important; width:auto !important;
not [code}margin:0 0 3px !important;[code} See the extra character? how can i add the -Add Comment button to open the Comment form 15 years 2 months ago #6874
When I first joined the project, I asked Daniel that myself. I had no idea what MooTools and JQuery was at the time Really? Great! Oh great... this Kunena is SERIOUSLY giving me the shits lately. The [ img ] tags are broken, that's the only thing I can remember right now. Sadly i'm too busy to take a crack at it myself, the forum extension is a little bit more complicated than JoomlaComment! In regards to the CSS file, that's really strange. Firebug ommitted that last zero! Perhaps my browser was playing up, I am using a Beta version of Firefox afterall Oh - having 0 will work, but 8 will not - you need to have the px unit to specify that you want pixels as opposed to em for example. 0 doesnt need the px/em extension because zero is always zero Ah, I think I understand now. That makes sense. Well, during the current beta phase, we are only keeping the modern template up-to-date because it is the most simple (it doesn't have fancy javascript) and is also the only one using a table-less layout (and therefore valid XHTML). I hope to create one, single "sliding" template based of modern for the next release which will hopefully fix all the strange issues everybody has. All the JQ and MT templates use tables instead of div layers, and it's not good - for the exact reason you mentioned, all sorts of layout problems - especially dynamic and fancy pages. Yep, I just checked out the proper link - and everything seems ok! Sadly though, because of the fact that the JQ and MT templates use tables for layout, it will be very difficult to make the gadget smaller. But hang tight, Daniel made some heavy changes to JoomlaComment recently - something i've been waiting weeks for - and we are getting closer and closer to a new release! Ah yeah i've got a little bit of a headache but I had a good night, my hometown Rugby League team won the grand final Thanks a lot Lee, I really appreciate it that you kept your cool when I got a little cranky for a small reason, and i'm happy we solved these serious conflicts in the end |
