I have developed the site I'm working on using Hotspots. I'm trying to figure out how to create a map showing all Chambers of Commerce for a given portion of the state of Tennessee, and the same chambers need to be included in a category called the name of the county they are in. Is the only way to do this, is to make two entries, and assign one of them to the category "Chambers" and one to "County"? If so, it would be nice to have a copy button... or "Save as copy." If there is a way to save a single entry to more than one category, please tell me how to do this.

Also, at what point does the map pick up the address and locate the latitude and longitude? Or do I have to manually go out to Google Maps and get the information for each one manually?

Thanks,
Pat

Hey Pat,
Save as copy is on the todo list. However I'm not really sure you are doing the right thing with the categories.
People don't normally go on the map to switch categories. They go on the map, they look for the location of interest and if you show them your point there - all is good. I really think that you should rethink the way you structure your hotspots. The hotspots component is not a traditinal directory, so don't treat it as such. Think what users do on the map and not what they do with a directory component where they see only a list with locations and have categories to select from. Here they have THE MAP that is the biggest category of all categories :)

As far the address is concerned -> Whenever the google geocoder gives us information about the spot we update the lat&lng. If you click on the map where the location should be -> we will try to find out what the address is from the coordinates. If you don't enter any coordinates, but just type the address we will try to determine the coordinates out of the address.

Regards,
Daniel

Thank you for the response, Daniel.

I may be doing things different than most, but trying to cover all bases for the easy of the tourist who may be looking for a place to stay and a place for dinner, for instance. In that case I want the business to show up in two categories if they provide both services In this instance the copy feature would be nice.

The Chambers of Commerce are the main sponsors of SCTTA, and are divided mostly by counties, and wanted to show what businesses were in each county for the ease of the tourist. I agree most tourists are just looking for the nearest tourist attraction.

I also found out after working in the program a while this weekend the latitude and longitude were populating from the address once I had a good one for it. I just had to use the Geocoder!

This is a great program, Daniel, and I am most happy to use it in this site. My client is really excited how easy it is going to make it for the traveler, and she can't wait to show it t the State tourism board at the next meeting. :cheer:

Thanks,
Pat

This sounds to me as something for a tags feature. It's on the todo list, but we'll see when it will make it in.

Daniel

Just as an update on this issue of multiple categories for one business, my client wanted to know if she was going to have to enter the same business 2 times if they offer food and a place to stay, for instance. This is where the copy feature would be nice, but especially the ability to place a business in 2 different categories or more. I really hope you will be offering the ability to cover this in the next update to Matukio for those of us like myself who do need this feature.

Thanks,
Pat

Hi Pat,

as Daniel said for this we are going to integrate the tag feature Joomla 3.x offers. We are using the joomla categories in Matukio and in these it is not scheduled to support multiple categories (ACL rigthts, images etc would cause multiple problems).

It's probably going to come with Matukio 5.4 or Matukio 6 later this year or in the beginning of next year.

Kind regards,
Yves

Thanks for the heads up on the timeline. I'll stop bugging you (Compojoom) in the meantime. :)

Dear Daniel,
I see this question was raised over 1,5 year ago. I'm wondering whether the association of multiple categories with 1 location has now been enabled.
It seems like the Core version doesn't allow it, however I'd be happy to upgrade to the Pro version if the function was enabled in Pro.
Thank you and best regards,
M
