Greetings,

I have one problem.. ok, I've manage to make my custom template style see www.pcmhz.com/noutati-stiri/51-news/190-...-pad-2-a-mouse-pad-3

But I do not want to leave /media/ folder with 777 permission but as soon as i change permission to /media/ where "mydefaul" template was generated/copied then modifyed by myself the website crashes since is not finding JComment default template

How can I copy my custom template or have it active without keeping 777 on /media/ folder?
(i'm using Joomla 1.5.6)

Thanks in advance

Now this is getting very annoying..
In a desperate attempt to solve the above issue I've check "Ignore the Writable / Not Writable status"
Now I cannot chmod those file from CPanel... i get only this error
"FileOp Failure on: /media/myjosctemplates/mydefault: Operation not permitted"

Please help me for the love of... :)

Try to change the file permission with filezilla, if you don't succeed contact you host support for help.

Hi,
Thanks.. solved only with my hosting provider.. files where assigned to "nobody" and have mode 444
It's possible that this is a bug? I mean when checking " Set Not Writable after saved" for HTML and/or CSS there should only be changes to chmod and not to the ownership of those files.

And I hope that I dont ask too much, can you please tell me how to avoid having chmod 777 to all media folder on my server and still have my custom template active?
As soon as I change /media/ to anything else than 777, my custom template becomes unavailable :(

Billion thanks in advance.

Hi,

First of all let me tell you few things about permission...

Apache Web Server runs with a user id/group (e.g. in ubuntu linux it runs as www-data/www-data), now if media folder is owned by this user then it it is not necessary to have permission as 777, 777 means access to everyone i.e. (owner, group, world).

I would recommend that you check with what user your web server is running and change the ownership of media folder to that user name, once that is done you don't need to set permission as 777.

Regards,

@Ajay Julia
Thanks for your reply but I am well aware of users, groups, permissions etc problem is that as soon as I change the /media/ folder permission to anything else (beside 777) my website becomes unaccesible with this error:
"!JoomlaComment template not found: mydefault"

All folders made by !JoomlaComment are asigned to user "nobody" and I cannot change that

I am again over and over very confused about this situation and I dont know how to fix it :(

Hint.. all folders in /media/ have 755 and in myjosctemplates/mydefault/css/ and myjosctemplates/mydefault/index.html have 644

FIXED in someway !!

Well, I've installed Joomla xplorer and I was able to overwrite some files from components /com_comment/bla/bla/bla/templates/MTdefault/
It would be great if after we customize our own template we can have an option to save that template in /templates/ folder .. otherwise in my particular case I was loosing 1 day and a half trying to find a solution.

:) Anyway, this component rock, its fast & reliable, have everything that I need but there's some issues that should be fixes in next releases..
I think that most of the problems appeared during installation when all folders where made unde "nobody" user&ownership

hello everyone, I too was having the same problem.
For some reason when joomla installs this component, it installs it with the apache as the ownership. To fix it, you must have superuser access and change the permissions, but not the ownership. Im not sure how secure that is, but it works for me now. Hope that helps.
