Ok, then I don't understand what you want. Would you explain it again and perhaps add few screen shots??

when someone starts a new thread I want all replies to this parent-post to be hidden or truncated by default. They can be shown in full when the parent-post is clicked on.

Go to the backend and take a look at Content Settings.

The 4th tab there is called Layout. Press it.
About 7 cm down from the top there, you will see: Preview visible: followed by a radio choice field button.

Choose NO.

I think this is what you are looking for.
It removes the shortviewing on the frontpage at least.

Main question or Parent post, isn't that the main article (Content Item) that the Comments are to stem from?
I mean, comments are mainly to the article that was posted, and not always directed at the first comment.

I mean, comments are mainly aimed to the article that was posted, and not directed at the first comment. -Since the first comment is commenting the posted Content Item.

A new thread, is a term used normally for Forums.
I know Fireboard had a truncation issue a while back (2008 I think), whereby quick replies were NOT truncated on default, leaving huge white fields on every post.
Hehe, but that was resolved super fast.

If you are looking for a commenting system for the Forums of Kunena/Fireboard, well that's tricky, and sounds like a job for Superman- or Daniel. Just, not exactly sure of the point of commenting system on a Forums though, as that works that way already.

But the question towards the end here says

when someone starts a new thread

which emplies either a Forums, or a Blog system is running.
If it is a Blog, then it is just a case of making the Comments for the Blog, which could be a Question or Post etc.

Either way, a Comments system is not exactly designed to be a parent post in itself. At least I haven't seen one... A Comment isn't exactly the startpoint. It is difficult to make a comment about something that hasn't been said.

Is it just me that understands me?
I know what I mean, but not sure if it is understandable in what I have written...

Hi Boris...

Apologies for the late reply. I do know exactly what you're thinking, unfortunately it would be a painful experience in the current state of JoomlaComment.

Version 4.1 is currently in development which we hope to have proper AJAX for the entire Comment system. I decided to make this a requirement before continuing coding on these prototype templates because it's too difficult and buggy with current 4.0 architecture.

If you just want a simple JavaScript extra to hide all replies (everything that wasn't a New Comment) until it's parent is clicked then I might look into it sometime this new week.

I guess I have the same need. To hide comments to comments. It´s ok for users to see comments but i´ll like for them to clic on comments to comments so that the thread shows.

THNX

Hi.

Yes I need to hide replies to comments. Users would have to click on replies to see replies to a comment. Can you work on something, or point us as to what to do?

Thnx.

A.
