Thank you for your earlier advice: My Joomla Comment is now installed with all the proper file permissions done etc.

But I still cannot get the “Write Comment” link to display after any of my articles.

I want the "add comment" that this site has: www.waldenbello.org/

I have tried the “Read on” / "Intro text" tricks mentioned in some other discussions.

One of the discussions told me to change my article to a blog layout, but that seems impossible because only categories can have blog layouts.

Please help, thanks.

Sincerely,
Boyd Reimer

Can you get a "Read More..." button to display? Getting that to show is a completely different thing to JoomlaComment, but that's where the 'Write Comment' link puts itself - next to 'Read More'.

First get the "Read More" button visible by switching your frontpage to the Article View - Blog Layout component or similar. Then and only then will you get the Write Comment button.

If that's not what you want, then I guess what you are asking is to try and put a 'Write Comment' button at the bottom of your article view? That will require a new JoomlaComment template woth some JavaScript to hide the comment form until this new button is clicked, nobody has created anything like this yet.

Thank you for your reply.

Actually, I never did have any Menu Item types designated as “Frontpage Blog Layout.” My whole site was built without one. All my Menu Item types were “Article Layout.”

But I don't mind changing my "Article Layout" into a “Category Blog Layout,” if that is what I have to do to get the "Write Comment" link.

Actually I did try that with no success:

I changed one of my “Article Layout” into a “Category Blog Layout,” and by doing so, yes, I did get my “Read more” button to display and function. (I lead the link to a similar article.)

But still I could not see the “Write Comment” button.

I have another question: At what point in this procedure (if any) should I change some of my Menu Item types into “!JoomlaComment”?

Also, what is the exact purpose of having the “!JoomlaComment” among the options in the Menu Item types?

Please help. Thank you for your help thus far. It is much appreciated.

Did you play with the options in the backend? From memory there are about four (!) options related to the 'Write Comment' button, we are working on cleaning up the backend. You might need to clear your cache too, not sure. Since my sites are always on localhost and only visible by me, I always keep my Joomla cache disabled.

At no point ever, and there is no purpose :)

The menu item there is left over as the result of JoomlaComment being a component, it has absolutely no use as of yet. But it may have some content in a future version.

If you are referring to the exclude/include options in the "Other component setting>General" area...then yes I have played with those options quite a bit... but without success.

If you are referring to some other options in some other area, then I would love to know in exactly which area they are, thanks.

Thanks again for your help.

No, I mean the option to actually turn on the 'Write Comment' buttons. Since you don't know what i'm talking about, chances are you havn't turned them on :P

Go to the Content Settings, Layout tab. See those four "Read on" options right at the top, each one being a Yes/No? Those are related to the Write Comment and Read On buttons. We need to rename the first one "show Read on" to "show Write Comment" instead, it's an oversight on our behalf. Sorry  So turn that first one on, you can leave the three below it Off, and it should show the Write Comment link.

Sorry for the misunderstanding, but before I started posting questions here, I had already tried the “Read on” / "Intro text" tricks mentioned in some other discussions.

I've tried all combinations of the first two buttons using both "yes" and "no."

hmmmmm....I guess I am still stumped.

Anyway, thank you for your patience.

By the way, you mentioned that the actual "Read on" button is different than the "Write Comment" button

Before you mentioned that, I imagined that a possible solution would be to change the words to say "Write comment" and then have it linking to the "comment writing form." (If so, then how do I create that form? Or how do I place that form somewhere? )

Anyway, all of the above is just pure speculation because you mentioned that the Read On button is totally different than the Write Comment button.

hmmmmm....I guess I am still stumped.

Anyway, thank you for your patience.

No, Read On and Write Comment can both be displayed, all the Write Comment function does is clone the Read On button and add the #JOSC_form anchor (or whatever it is) to that. Plus it adds a number of how many comments there are to the text.

On the layout tab, the first option "show Read on" must be set to Yes. If it is on No, then it will be turned off. Leave it on yes while we try other things.

Now, I don't know if Write Comment works on Blog View. I can't load my localhost right now to test. Please try setting a new menu item to Frontpage layout, because I know that works. And make sure you have some intro text in your articles - insert the 'Readon Seperator' in your article editor somewhere. That way, it doesn't matter what your Frontpage layout parameters are (Headline Articles, Intro articles, etc, won't matter).
