Oh I see. Re-reading your original post makes complete sense now, I don't know why I didn't get it first
Well........ why would anyone allow a comment with such a length anyway? Comments are supposed to be short!
But I guess for the reasons of JoomlaComment being flexible (as it can nearly act as a "mini forum" as it is already with such power) this should be implemented. It will probably be a template-specific addon though if I decide to do it, but I can help with adding something to the modern template here and now
.
I always thought that, with a character limit in the backend, JoomlaComment would abort submission if a new comment was over the limit - I didn't know it would cut it off without warning. In my new templates i've put a JavaScript "ticker" that counts and shows how many characters are left in real-time, and will actually stop the user from going over that limit.
But this is indeed useful if the administrator wants a huge or unlimited character limit.
I've got an easy idea of how to do this already, but it's not valid XHTML and I don't know how to "re-hide" the expanded comments.
Let me take a look at the 'Read More Comments...' unfolding button first. I need to research a few things. When I figure that out, i'll take a crack at this one
