Hi,

I downloaded jocomment and i really liked it. It was working great until my webhost blocked my website because of system overload, so i installed one caching plugin and enabled joomla's cache in global configuration.

They reenabled my website but jocomment doesn't work anymore... I told them but they say

'The button for the form is not working because of javascript errors on the page. The errors are due to www.temdeglel.net/components/com_comment...t/jscripts/client.js not being included into the page. In order to fix this problem, you'll need to make sure that this file is included on all pages where the comments show up.'

my technical knowledge is bad and i couldn't fix it myself. can you guys help me for this?

well first of all my webhost blocked my website because of server overload, and they advised me use cache plugin and other extensions that reduces pressure to main server.

so i installed CssJsCompress plugin and enabled optimize javascript files, they said it was causing jocomment not working properly. so i disabled it and it seems working.

i'm kinda curious about exactly why it happened...

thanks for your quick reply.

How much bandwidth per day does your website generate? And is this a free host?

Also, JavaScript and CSS compressors will do little compared to a good PHP Accelerator ;)

i don't know exactly but they my joomla extensions and 'heavy users' caused this problem. and they advised me to block these users or upgrade to dedicated server.

hostgator is my web hosting.

I am also on the HostGator hatchling plan :)

Funny these hosts hey, they claim to give unlimited bandwidth but they have a hidden "reasonable rate" allocation... *sigh*

Something that might help is the sh404SEF extension. I'm not sure if you have or even want SEF enabled on your Joomla site, but it has a plethora of very very good security enhancements - one of them being anti-flooding. It can temporarliy block any IP that makes so-many requests over a certain ammount of time, effectively messing with users who are spamming your site with too much data and/or downloads.

These "heavy users" might be leaching your site, and dare I say, you might even be the victim of DDoS attacks. sh404SEF has great protection and counter measures for these things. The downside is that you have to spend more time configuring other components of your site to be "less intense" otherwise you can block your own server from itself  an example is JoomlaPack - a backup/retore extension - which has an option to limit the rate of HTTP requests per second.

sh404SEF will apparently allow IP-based exceptions to these anti-flood measures in a later unannounced version.

Do you have GZIP enabled? It works well on HostGator.

Anywho, back on topic, this is definately something I will be interested in sorting out too - hopefully we can add it to a new JoComment version as I am on HostGator hatchling for the moment and will be using a cache before my site goes live aswell. Until then, maybe there's a way we can quick-fix this - even by excluding JoComment from this cache extension. We'll need Daniel's help on that, and i'll probably have to do some of my own research (lucky i'm on the same hosting company ;) )

wow, thank you very much for the information. i have both installed sh404SEF and joomlapack but i never knew it is actually protecting my website...

my technical knowledge is not good and i usually avoid changing advanced settings.

can you tell me important component settings and other extensions that you can recommend for me since we have one hosting :)

i have these components: jocomment, cb, docman, jce, jfusionm joomlapack, security images and sh404SEF.

If you look at the sh404SEF front page component, you can see on the right all the security statistics :)

I would regard myself as an advanced user, but i'm only new to web design and Joomla :P I'm still learning as I go, but have been working on a site for a few months now to try and get a solid framework installed before opening it. The best I can recommend is to READ as much as you can haha! I spent a few hours exploring the sh404SEF documentation and forums, and researching every option in all the tabs there - most of it I figured out through googling and experimentation :P

There isn't too much I could recommend apart from that, i'm definately not an expert yet. I also spent several days learning Community Builder installation and configuration, right now i'm trying hard to integrate an all-in-one tagging solution for my site-wide components (SOBI2, Forums, CB, Articles, Galleries and Downloads, and so on).

I was going to mention that you could check out my site when it's up, I will be documenting everything about the Joomla construction in the Database there - but I feel a bit immoral advertising myself there lol I'm not trying to sponge of Daniels' popularity of these forums!

There is a 'General' part of these forums too incase you didn't notice, you can ask general Joomla/web design questions there. I've also been meaning to join the official Joomla forums, but havn't had any need to yet. The people there seem very helpful though.
