Hi there - I just installed 4.0 for my website and the comments are actually working fine - but I cannot access the back end. I get a blank screen for any of the management settings.

I have read on another post that this is probably due to my hosting provider's mysql being 4.1. Since my provider (Yahoo) cannot upgrade mysql, is there any way to manually configure some of the settings? I am most interested in hiding the input form (currently the entire form is showing at the bottom of every article as a default) until the user clicks a link to open a new comment.

Thank you in advance for any help you can provide.

James

This is a little bit stupid. Yes, you can manually make changes to the template files, but you can not make changes to any joomlacomment settings if you don't have a working background.

To modify your template first watch the video in the FAQ section, then go to components/com_comment/joscomment/templates/ and since you can not change the settings I suppose that you should use the default template. Make the changes and this should work. But to have a good experience with joomla comment(and all other joomla components) I recommend you to find another host if yahoo doesn't wish to upgrade.

Thanks Daniel - I viewed the video, but I am still not sure which file needs to be modified within my default template - and what line of code needs to be modified to hide the input form with a link.

you want to hide the input form? You want to click on a button for the form to appear?

Ok, then you will have to do something else. Go to your database (use phpmyadmin for example) find the table jos_comment_settigns.
there you must have a field with content settings -> edit it.

In the parameters cell find template and change the value to
_template=MTdefault-emotop

And please find another hosting company! I'm not programing here all day long for you to go and change values manually through the database!
