thanks I will drop my hosts an email and get them to fix it. Then try to change the settings on the captcha folder again.

Well she found the GD and did an apache update its still not working though. She says she can't find the freetype library and doesnt know what that is.

Thanks I didn't realise it was a plug in software. I thought you had to change a server setting or something. Apologies I am just a newbie and not very experienced in these things.

Obviously your webhost is either only very basic and not designed for modern, dynamic PHP CMS's like Joomla and Drupal, or she has only just started this new host... nearly all major webhosts that run PHP 5.x have GD and FreeType, they are very very common these days.

Hopefully your host can sort it out soon, itherwise you will have to hang tight for the next release which has ReCaptcha (which does not require GD or FreeType at all). But right now we don't have a timespan for the next release, and it's a good idea to get that FreeType library installed on the host as many extensions will depend on it.
