When people post a comment, I normally approve and publish it. But the display in the front end is going past
the module position and looks terrible to read. How can I correct this without modifying any css entries ?

When you go to the security tab in the settings of the component you will see that there is an option to limit the lenght of the string. (Word length I think) - change it to something smaller.

Right now I saw on your page a thread with a really long url link and it was braking the layout.

Alternatively you can use bbcode for the link:
[url=htpp://myurl.com]
name of the link
[/url]
