Ok, I modified the file (because I did have a URL in there for "livesite") and asked the user to retry posting his comment. So I'll let you know if it works! Thanks so much for sticking with me here!!

Just got word from the user that he now gets a 404 error message when he clicks on "Write Comment" (says component not found or something to that effect).

No, wait. I'm also getting error 404 - one4theotherthumb.com/index.php/archives...-headline-of-the-day

Turn off SEF urls and test again. If not did you delete some ocmponents or so? There is no way that the live_site variable caused this.

Ok, I turned off the SEF URLs and asked the commenter to try again. He said he tried from both Firefox and IE and it wouldn't work in either browser.

Components - I've deleted JooBB, JCM, something called "Idoblog," and the name escapes me, but a component that allowed me to wrap external site content into an I-frame. Otherwise, I can't think of any other components I've deleted since I launched the site in June.

I don't have a clue. I tried it and it is working for me. Perhaps they should clear all cookies???

I just thought of something else - could it be because I had originally installed Joomla at one4theotherthumb.com/joomla224 ?

Obviously subsequent to that I moved all of the files to the top level, where everything is now located, but I don't know much about back end programming so I don't know if that would effect performance at all?

Hm, now that explains where the live_site variable is coming from, but it doesn't explain why joomlacomment is not working for the user.

Here is what I think:
If it is working for me, for you - then it should also work for that user - there is no reason why.
What I can offer is to make a teamviewer connection to the users PC and watch what he does.

Well if it works for you Daniel, and for Chris, but one user is reporting a problem, obviously that users' computer is borked :P

Tell the user to test with Internet Explorer or some other browser. They probably have an extension that's screwing things up. NoScript for example is a horrible extension that completely disables JavaScript (self reminder - add an option for 'This page requires JavaScript' checking in the new secret Joomla extension)
