Hey Walter,
I will not try your file, because I believe I found the problem.
I finally got the strange characters :)

I'm really sorry guys! I was giving you the utils.php file all the time, but we are not using only the functions in this file :)

So I replaced the string functions in mod_comment with utf-8 aware ones and now it should work. Please test it and report :) mod_comments.zip

Well, I couldn't wait to get your reports. So I tested it with Walters text - it is working. :)

So sorry. I just downloaded it. I will report soon.
Well, I do joomla a while. But your mod_commends.zip I don't understand. I don't have the file and/or structure on my server. So where to put it?

Ok, I believe that we are speaking about different things.

The user gxenakis has problems with the module. So that is why I'm uploading a mod_comments file - you can install it through the backend.

Are you having problems with the component then?
Here is a screenshot - your thai characters are readable(that is my dev version, but in the demo section there is also no problem). Please notice - the white space is added because of a settings I have configured in backend - max word lenght: 30chars

Here is a screen shot:

Well, to make it more transparent: It seems it is "stored" correctly but only shown wrong in front AND backend.

I believe you are using 3.26.
Try this alpha here:
compojoom.com/forum.html?func=view&catid...mit=10&start=10#3349

Right, I am/was on 3.26 on Joomla 1.5.9

Try this alpha here:
compojoom.com/forum.html?func=view&catid...mit=10&start=10#3349

I tried. The "installer" does not uninstall the prev. version - well, it is an Alpha. Just want to let you know.

So I uninstalled 3.26 (with joomla). Comment entries kept in the database.

I try to install jocomment4-29bb36b8eb3b5bfe70a4ae19aad08fcf.zip (with joomla).
(chanlog.txt says
************ 2009/02 : !jocomment 4.0 alpha 2
- compatible with joomla 1.5
- changed the functions for the length parameter - now UTF-8 aware.
I will switch of legacy 1.0 then)

I get the error message : Component Install: Another Component is already using directory: "C:\Inetpub\vhosts\xxxxxxx.xxx\httpdocs\components\com_comment"

I tried to remove the folder manually with ftp and directly on the server (/components/com_comment/joscomment "is locked by another process"). As the folders are empty I guess windows "forgot" to release them. So I have to restart the server / service. But I cannot do it now as too many domains are involved. I will do it tonight; in about 8-9 hours from now and keep you updated.

I might try to install it manually during the evening.

Kind regards and thank you for your help.

Walter

P.S.: Do you want to have the english.php translated into thai.php?

I am sorry for responding so late. I had a group meeting for the MBA program I attend. I uninstall the old mod and install the new one. Well the characters looks okay now the dates have been mixed up with % chars.

Damn it is terrible! I'm only relating to joomla comment 4.0 and it is even not released yet :)

Yes, version 3.26 has problems with the chars - but they should be all fixed in 4.0
gxenakis go to your module and change the date string to one using the date() function syntax de2.php.net/date this should solve your problem and it should finally work.

hey walter :) I don't have to have the english.php translated to thai.php , but I'm sure that there are going to be a lot of users that will be happy to see such file. So if you are able to do this - you are welcome :)

Hello Daniel,

sorry for my late reply. There was a bank holiday last Monday and Songkran (Thai new year festival) is coming up with almost one week break.
However, I managed to install your alpha and it works as expected. Till now we have not found any (Thai-) character that was not displayed correctly. Thank you for your help.

I will send you the thai.php as soon as the translation is finished. You will get it for 4.0 and 3.26 (not too many changes from 3.26 to 4.0 here. In fact, ONE). If you make further changes in 4.0 related to the english.php please feel free to send it to me for translation.

Kind regards and another big thank you for your help

Walter

Hi!

I have the same issue with "strange chars" in module. My site is in Latvian language. I use 3.26 with Joomla 1.5.8. Installed mod_comments provided above in this thread, but it doesn't help. I noticed that chars become strangled only if those are last ones in a word which has been shortened by max chars option. For example if word "kvotām" is shortened by 1 char it become "kvot..." So, the devil is in shortening...
What should i do? Try to use 4.0 alpha?

Well, it doesn't help because the module uses few functions from the component. And these function in 3.26 are not utf8 aware.

I would recommend upgrading to alpha3, but I think it is better to wait a little bit, because there is still one bug with these functions, that will be fixed for beta1. Please wait a little bit and when beta1 is out there install it and everything should be normal.
