Backend > Settings > (Tab) Posting > Number of comments by page: (HERE ENTER NR YOU WANT PR PAGE).

Not sure about you version though... I'd upgrade if I were you, as there are some security issues etc.

Hi Nils

Thanks for the prompt reply. I don't seem to have that menu structure. In joomla, I look under components, choose !JoomlaComment, then Edit Settings. This now gives me a series of tabs: General, Security, Layout, HTML, CSS. I can't seem to find any "Number of comments by page" option within any of these tabs. Am I missing something here?

As for the version, yes I know it is quite old. I was told however that if I have UBB code support off there should not be a security issue (from an old post here I think). I guess I'm worried I will lose old comments if I upgrade - or something else will go wrong. I'm not too technically inclined really.

thanks
Emily

I used the old component too, but I think I managed to get it paginating... just that it's been too long ago for me to remember how the backend is...
But keeping the comments throughout the upgrade has never been an issue.
But as always, it is smart to take a backup first, just in case.

Make a backup with the extension provided from www.akeebabackup.com/ and then update at least to joomlacomment 4.0 or better to compojoomcomment ;)

In joomlacomment 4.0 you can find the option that Nils is talking about.

3.12 - not sure what there was in the package - this is more than 3 years old :)

Hi Daniel

Thanks for the information. I guess I am supposed to download Akeeba Backup? But it seems this only works with Joomal 1.5 and 1.6. I am running 1.0.15. Ugh. Seems like everything I have is a few years old and hard to work with. Is there no other way to keep all the existing !JoomlaComment 3.12b comments and upgrade to !JoomlaComment 4.0?

Joomla 1.0 is old.
I've uploaded 3.26 that was the last that worked with joomla 1.0
compojoom.com/downloads/downloads/joomla...lacomment326zip/view

But I'm not making any support anymore for joomla 1.0

Hi Daniel

Thanks again for your reply. Does joomlacomment 3.26 provide pagination? Also, I've gone to the page you provided and I cannot download version 3.26. Do I have to buy a support subscription to be able to download?

Thanks,
Emily

Try the link above the 3.26 version.
The one called joomlacomment4.0.0RC1.zip
From the changelog in it, it looks like it was 1.0 based.

No, I think that 4.0 was not anymore compatible with joomla 1.0.

Get 3.26 - you should be able to download it now. And yes, in 3.26 there is pagination.

Hi Daniel

Thanks so much! I was able to download JoomlaComment 3.26. Can I just install and my old comments will remain? Or do I have to do some kind of backup (if so, any idea how, as akeebabackup doesn't work on Joomla 1.0.15?).

Go to the settings of joomlacomment and make sure that the option complete uninstall is set to 0. Then you should be save to uninstall the component (all comments, votes, etc should stay intact) and once you uninstall you can install the new version.

But please!!!!!!! Make a backup of your website! You should do this at least once weekly in case you've been hacked or anything else goes wrong. backup is always a good thing!

Hi Daniel

I am sorry to bother you again but perhaps there is a quick and easy answer to this. I run Joomla 1.0.15 on a few of my sites and because I wanted pagination I upgraded from iJoomlaComment 3.12 to 3.26 (our previous discussion). But I have noticed that comments in 3.26 have strange carriage returns making the content look very odd and hard to read. For example:

sewing-machine-ratings.com/Janome-sewing...ews/Janome-8077.html

Is there a quick and easy way to sort this out. I've tried changing a number of setting but to no avail.
thanks
Emily

Hey Emily,
Go to the security page and play with the text overflow values...

Hi Daniel

I just tried this on one of my sites and it messed things up - the page is now super wide. When I change the overflow settings back to default (Post max length = 2000, Line max length = 80, Word max length = 22) it doesn't go back. It is now stuck too wide. I even uninstalled it and reinstalled but now my site width is still messed up. Can you please look at this (I run a few sites - this too is 1.0.15 and I just upgraded from iJoomlaComment 3.12 to 3.26).

Hi Daniel

The entire site was messed up - right margin was pushed way over so I had to do a complete component uninstall (I only had 6 comments so far so I saved them and will manually put them back if I reinstall 3.26). Sorry for all the trouble. I'm not sure what to do here. Please see attached screenshot of what happened.

You can't brake your website when you play with the text overflow settings....

Hi Daniel

Thanks for the forum link. The screenshot I sent is what happened when I made the following change.

Content settings->security -> line overflow -> make the line width -1

Even after I changed the setting back to default (80) the screen stayed wide. I did an uninstall with "Uninstall complete mode" set to NO and even this did not work - the page was still stretched wide. I had to remove iJoomlaComment completely.

If you do an uninstall with complete mode set to yes, then the whole database will be deleted. In your case doing it without means that you've left the configuration there and after installing it again the component uses the same config.

I cannot comment on the behavior you got, as you have removed the component and I haven't had a chance to look at your website.

Hi Daniel

I have reinstalled the component and oddly enough all the data (comments and settings) are still there. And the site instantly is messed up. I hate to leave it like this but I will for 1 day if you can find the time to view it.

vacuum-cleaner-ratings.com/Panasonic-vac...asonic-MC-CG902.html

The overflow setting are currently Post max length = 2000, Line max length = 70, Word max length = 22. It is odd that this too didn't go back to the default of 2000/80/22. It seems no dbase tables were deleted when I removed the component but I am certain I set Uninstall Complete Mode to yes. Thanks again.

You have changed something else - perhaps the template?
add this line to your template css file and everything should go back to normal
#comment .inputbox {
width: 100%;
}
  • Page:
  • 1
  • 2
Time to create page: 0.147 seconds
