Hi Daniel,

What is the usual category marker size you can upload. For example the size in pixels (length and width) and the file size and the file type (for example .png, .jpg etc). I tried uploading an icon to use as a category marker but it was not displaying on the website. Hence this question.

Daniel,

I think I figured it out, set the file properties on the uploaded icon in the "Group" and "Everyone" to read. The icon seems to display. But I would like to here from you on the size and type of icon that should be uploaded in this extension.

I also can across to other things that may have been corrected in the Pro-version.

1.(minor) I noticed when listing American (U.S.) locations that their is not "State" text box, to enter your information.

2. I also notice that when you first visit the map page, that the zoom level is way up their, I tried setting the zoom to a level 5, but it looks like its giving me a zoom level of 16.

Best is to use the default icon size -> 32x37. However you can use whatever size you want, but then it won't look that good in the category selection and in the menu.

1. I think that you are the first American that says something about the state field :) It's never been there actually. If you think that it is really necessary I can have a look at what I could do for the next version.

2. That depends on the menu parameters. Go to your joomla backend -> your hotspots map menu -> basic options -> what is the centering parameter? If you are centering using the marker boundary method, then the application is automatically determining the best zoom so that it can show all markers at once.

Regards,
Daniel

Dan,

On point 2. I get you. Map Center is "By Category Marker Bounds". Therefore the more markers I create the wider the area covered.

Next question, in the webinar, I believe you showed a user how to put a single hotspot map location in the article, and I believe you used some type of code. Is this feature specific to the pro-version or can you also create a hotspot map in an article in the core version? I looked through documentation, couldn't see anything specific about this. Is their a link to see how this is done?

Yes, this is specific to the pro version. It comes with "content - hotspot" plugin. then one can use the following syntax:
{hotspots hotspot=id}

and this will load the map in an article.

loving this software - I am uploading several different "spots" to get the loomk and feel of what it will be like on the premium version- really liking this.

Am I blind or are there no petrol station icons? or service stations, etc

if not, do you have a suggestion?

many thanks

@Sean - please start an own topic next time. The distributed icons com from Nicolas Mollet. This is his website:
mapicons.nicolasmollet.com/?s=petrol

If you like the stuff he does consider sending him a few bugs!

Thanks Daniel,

I created a new category called Service Stations, and uploaded the filling station icon (using the option "upload new image" in the category section of the hotspot backend), which Joomla told me it uploaded it to :

public_html/media/com_hotspots/images/categories/1381954667_S_fillingstation.png

But it still doesn't show up on the list of icons not will it include in to the category.

I saw Rick's comment above where he said "set the file properties on the uploaded icon in the "Group" and "Everyone" to read" and I am wondering if that would indeed be the solution and if so, where one would do that?

Many thanks

Hey Sean,

Navigate to that file location via ftp on your hosting server (the ftp I am usuing is WS_FTP 12 LE and/or FileZilla), right click on the file in question, in the context box, choose properties. This should bring up the Unix properties of the file and just select the "read" check boxes for "Group" and "World". Hope this helps.

P.S. You might want to create your own thread, on the forum, but in this case one of your questions helped me on where to find the icons in question. lol.

Hey Daniel,

From post: compojoom.com/forum/hotspots-core/18252-...ry-marker-icon#22852 of this thread, you gave me this code.

{hotspots hotspot=id}

I actually used it in an article at my site. However, I am getting an error that seems to be intermittent, meaning sometime it renders correctly and then it reverts back to the error. When I clear my cache in joomla 3.1.5. the hotspot in the article renders correctly, but then going back an forth to the article and playing around with the map, it starts rendering incorrectly. I have attached two screen shots to show you the problem.

I don't really see the difference between the 2 screenshots? What am I looking at?

Daniel,

In the pop-up box one screen-shot says "Directions" while the other screen shot says "COM_HOTSPOTS_JS_DIRECTIONS". Just don't think a user will understand "COM_HOTSPOTS_JS_DIRECTIONS" when he clicks on the link and the resulting dialog box that pops up. See the new screen shot.

Daniel,

Here is the url of the page (front-end). But be fore-warned this is an intermittent problem, you will have to go to back to "Post Announcements" (which is a menu item in my main menu, left side of page, the category is basically a list of featured articles) click on the featured article again if you don't see the error at first and click on the american legion icon to see the error.

Once the error shows, it stays pretty consistent after that.

URL: merrickpost1282.org/post-announcements/2...13-2014-al-year.html

I have included a screen shot of the backend of this article.

Note, I have also tested this in a "Non-featured" article with a different category icon, same problem exists.

can you look at your language file in language/en-GB/en-GB.com_hotspots.ini

do you have a translation for COM_HOTSPOTS_JS_DIRECTIONS there, or does it say:
COM_HOTSPOTS_JS_DIRECTIONS="COM_HOTSPOTS_JS_DIRECTIONS"
