For some reason this component is adding a space above the main body area on my web pages. Disabling the iJoomlaComment plugin fixes the problem, but I'd like to have the commenting functionality set up now rather than later.

You can see the problem here: [blog layout]
sparkeditorial.com/spark-blog.html

and here: [full article]
sparkeditorial.com/mother-nat...ndcrunchy.html

The same day that I installed this, I upgraded from Joomla 1.5.10 to 1.5.14. Since then, I've re-downloaded and overwritten both the upgrade patch and full package files just to make sure it wasn't a Joomla problem.

Any ideas on how I can fix this? Anyone else having this problem?

I've already consulted the JoomlaArts forum to see if it was an issue with my website template, too. An expert there identified that the problem was with JoomlaComment.

Thanks for any help...

Hmm I can see many spaces.... but which one is causing the problem for you? :laugh:

OK I see it. This is very strange, it seems like a problem with your Joomla template but as you said - when you disable JoomlaComment, it goes away!

Could you first do us a favour and try switching to the 'modern' template in the JoomlaComment settings...? See if that get's rid of the space. If it is gone, tell us what JoomlaComment template you'd like to use (the one you've got now) and i'll look at it's code to test and find the cheeky buster.

[Technical Details: Observing in Firebug, for some reason there's a Line-Break just before the 'contentheading' <h2> (that is, the title of the article) and I don't know where it's coming from.]

I'm using the "modern" template now, but color-customized. The problem seems to be with all of the various templates, unfortunately.

I have no idea why it's happening and how JoomlaComment is actually doing it. I can't replicate the problem in any of the templates I use, and it seems like a bug in the JoomlaArt template but it doesn't make sense. Here's what I mean - in your page source it looks like this (it's just a snippet):
<!-- BEGIN: CONTENT -->
	<div id="ja-mainbody" class="clearfix">

		<!-- BEGIN: CONTENT -->
		<div id="ja-content" class="clearfix">

			<div id="ja-current-content" class="clearfix">
				<h1 class="componentheading">
	The Spark Plug</h1>

That massive space of three lines is what's causing it. I edit the HTML with firebug I just delete one empty line and it fixes it.

I'd like to look at the JoomlaArt template myself so I can try and trace it, obviously we have a conflict here and looking at it might give me an idea how to modify JoomlaComment. I know it's probably a premium template but do you think you could send just the index.php file from "template/{templatename}/index.php" for me? I'm sure that'd be OK for bugfixing purposes :)

I'm experiencing the exact same problem. I have tried several (if not all) templates with no success.

JoomlaComment is still putting a space above the main content area messing up the layout. I've also tried using several different site templates including the default ones (beez, ja purity etc..) and the problem is there still.

I've posted about this on the forum at Joomla.org
forum.joomla.org/viewtopic.php?f=431&t=443849

Would greatly appreciate help with this one...

A link to your website? Perhaps you can write to the creator of your template? In the past I never could find the problem. I would like to look again at this, but the help of another experienced css guru will not hurt :)

Oh, I had the link to my site in the other tread wich I posted a link to...

Anyways here is my site 66.7.204.124/~forspadd/

I have developed the template myself with Artisteer, but as described above. It doesn't matter which template I use, still get the same problem.

That's alright Erik, I was away from home for a few days sorry.

I will take an in-depth look at this within the next 24 hours, as it's happening with several templates and not just the one (some from JoomlaArt, others custom made, correct?).

yes thats correct. It even happens with the default Joomla Templates (Beez, JA Purity and rhuk_milkyway) Those are, however designed a little differently compared to my template which means that this problem is not as easily seen. In the default templates you can see it if you are logged in as admin then the edit article icon will not be aligned with the headline of the article as it should be.

Ah that's a good thing to know, I I was worried I would have to ask someone to send me their Joomla template. Cheers.

Well it's really hard to see on Rhuk, but its there. If I uninstall JoomlaComment I can see that the headline of the first article on my page move up about one line.

I have pics with and without JoomlaComment, but I can't upload them

Nope! I don't have this problem in my joomla installation.

Can you do me a favor? Please install joomlacomment on an empty joomla site and test it again with rhuk - if you don't see a problem, then it must be something conflicting with joomlacomment(another extension perhaps?)

Ok, that was a good idea. I installed Joomla with example data and then installed JoomlaComment. Now there is no space. So it looks like you are right. Its probably some kind of conflict with another extension. The question is which one.

I also tried to install JCE-editor as I have it on my site, but the problem is still not there.

...tricky.

seariously... I've installed just about every extension I can think of having anything to do with articles (since this problem only occurs for articles). On the site with example data - No matter what I do I can't reproduce the problem. Yet no matter what I do to my real site the problem is still there...

This is driving me nuts...
