Not sure what the "fix" is for this. When I installed it didn't do this, so I am thinking it was one of the backend changes in the admin interface - just not sure which option, or which series of options makes it do this.

the url is expressivearth.com.

I added another category and added two markers to it, just in case... Anyway, when you click "Environmental" the "loading" box goes away, however no makers are showing. Even if you reload the page and look for the markers behind the loading box - they are still not there.

I rechecked my media directory and each folder has the correct R/W permissions - I don't understand it. The markers are viewable in the admin area.

Robert,
It seems like the component is "sensitive" about the type of .PNG that it will load. For example the first time I loaded it I used .PNGs that had "screen" selected under resolution rather than "source". When you refreshed the page, it would sit there and load continually. Frustrated, I deleted and reloaded everything, still happened.

Next I swapped the resolution settings and re-installed everything - problem fixed. Of course my pins, which are in fact, circles, now have a white background. This is not acceptable for long term, but it loads perfectly now. I guess I just need to maybe recreate my circles (Dots) with "Source" but lower the resolution such that the component will load it. Daniel, does that seem like the right thing to do? JIm

hapmaps.com - click on the menu item event maps.

it may have to do with the images. Because once I loaded them all up it happened. If you could have a look I would appreciate it.

Funny thing is it says it is loading data but I can click on a category link and it will load the map. Didn't do this before the upload of the images.

A few oither things:

Captcha does not work properly so I disabled it
Uploading of an image for an end user adding a hotspot is not working well

Out of the box it works fine except for a few things that I mentioned.

Thanks.

@jim - please upload your images to the forum with a small description like - it was not working with this one, it was working with this one - I'll check it out. But actually - png is png. It should work...

@Robert - you have 2 problems.
First - when the user opens the map at hapmaps.com, hotspots tries to get the information from www.hapmaps.com - which is not allowed. You should check your settings. For example look at the configuration.php file of joomla - if it has a life_site settings such as www.hapmaps.com - remove it.

The next - when I open the map with www. infront the request gets a response, but the problem is that in this response you have php warning:
<br />
<b>Warning</b>: getimagesize(/home/admimapy/public_html/media/com_hotspots/images/categories/sample3_shadow.png) [<a href='function.getimagesize'>function.getimagesize</a>]: failed to open stream: No such file or directory in <b>/home/admimapy/public_html/components/com_hotspots/utils.php</b> on line <b>547</b><br />

Here is the url to the request: www.hapmaps.com/index.php?option=com_hot...l=null&position=null

Sadly such notices and warnings are breaking the functionality of the component, but the next version will deal much better with it...

Thanks Daniel for the quick reply.

Okay I removed it but there is still a concern with the captcha.

I think my strategy will be for a location mapping service instead of events. So I will be working on trying to import locations of restaurants as mentioned earlier and will hold off on users adding events. (I think you said you will be working on the ability for the end user to edit their hotspot entry)

I have to get to work so I will work on it later. Have a good one.

This one (blue) leaves a white square on the background. Not a clean circle of blue... This other one (red) leaves no square, white background. It's easy enough to create PNG like this (resolution/size).

It may be that my initial image was too large? Right now I have examples of each on wwww.expressivearth.com and for some reason it hasn't broken yet...

I think I have the same issue, with white box saying loading data even when the map loads. However I have worked out that in my case it is to do with the Div Orerlay option. if i put this to no in the configuration > layout tab it does no show this box and seems to work ok.

The only other issue is when edit category where it says icon there is ablank placeholder above it.

I found the solution; I had to assign a icon and a shadow to each location in order for it to work.

@Royal - you are loading a plugin on that page: jceutilities that is loading the jquery framework and it is colliding with mootools and this is causing a js script error. Disable the plugin and it should start to work again.

hmmm... first I disabled JCE utilities plugin. Didn't work. Then I edited hotspots out of JCE's groups. Didn't work. Then tried disabling the whole main JCE plugin - didn't work. Nothing worked... still clueless. And loading...

hmmmm ?

and, since the JCE utilities actually was enabled well before the "loading" started, I don't think that's the problem. The problem must be somewhere else...

Currently the JCE utilities plugin is disabled. And loading continues... www.kalamies.com/kalamiehen-gps-poi-kartta-kalastuspisteet.html

What SEF component are you using?
this request:
www.kalamies.com/index.php?option=com_ho...l=null&position=null

Is returning 301 moved permanently.
then a new request is started like www.kalamies.com/hotspots.html

the first request is not returning the necessary stuff, but a html page. Which is wrong. Turn off the sef component for the hostpots requests and I guess that it should start to work again.

Using sh404SEF - hotspots sef disabled, still loading...

EDIT: when trying to set sh404sef to skip hotspots the setting never gets saved. Hmmm... wonder where that setting is saved? Gotta go ask the sh404sef people...

This is annoying! GRRRR!!! Any ideas?
