I like the "thumbs up" and "thumbs down" system, and I think that will help me find comments that need to be moderated. But I'd like to have a "report this" button, too, because that would be a faster way for users to report bad posts to the moderators. The "thumbs down" can mean either "offensive content" or "I disagree with you", so that's slower than a "report this".

Actually, something like this could be really fun!
How about making it as a dropdown list of replies?

For example:
I totally agree
You are an idiot
I think you need treatment

Etc...

And these short replies can be edited to a set number or altered replies from the backend.
Or is this just getting too "overboard"?

lol I didn't mean that we could add replies. I just meant that a "thumbs down" is vague as to the reason why it's thumbs down, so the moderators don't catch on quickly to offensive content. If 25 people vote a post "down", the moderator will look at it, and maybe it's very offensive :O . The problem is, it offended 25 people. If there was a "report this" button, then the post would only offend 1 person before the moderators had a chance to look at it.

Yes, I understood the request, and think it could be smart for some sites to have this kind of function.
I was just thinking out loud that when additional click definitions are to be made, to do something like that, perhaps it might be an idea to just build it into being a fullout short-automated-comment system.
Just a suggestion.

I've made a feature for a customer, that sends a sends a mail to the author of the comment. I could change the behaviour of it and it can become a report this button.
But this feature will be added first in the next version: 4.2, right now we have to release 4.1

That'll be good.
Maybe the administrator could have options:
  • turn it off
  • show only for unregistered users ('guests')
  • show on all posts

This sounds like a fun kind of rating survey. The original writer could learn the stats: "8 out of 12 people say, 'You're brilliant!' 4 out of 12 people say, "You're nuts!'" :D
