Yes, I know I need to update... but is there a 1.5 version around for the plug-in?

i'm afraid not, the plugin supports only Joomla 2.5.

Hi Miamiman,
As Yves said the plugin is only for 2.5 and a 1.5 version is not planned. On 1.5 you can use the smtp servers that mandrill provides.
