P.S. I know that you love my russian accent, but I'm bulgarian :D

edit: here few screenshots of how the template can look:

I am going to release BiggieSmalls as a professional template and according to the time I put into it, I've decided to price it at 77$ for 3 domains.

Also, I would like to give credit where credit is due. I wanted to create a very simple and customizable template and was inspired for the default view from the popular wordpress theme - Thesis. If you want a template like BiggieSmalls for wordpress, you should go and get their theme.

Stay tuned BiggieSmalls is due to be released on the 9th of September 2009 at 9:09h .

Honestly Daniel, you sound more Serbian than Russian (yes, I can notice). Very well done this video, look at all those parameters! :cheer:

    avatar

    Hello Daniël,
Looks good! I suppose Biggie Smalls is IE-proof!? How does your template respond to
    IE 8  ... IE 7 :0 ? (I hardly dare to ask) IE6 :X ????

I am sure going to try your template. Free???

Thanks for your mail notifying me about this. It certainly looks good and would seem to greatly simplify template customisation.

I don't know if you remember now but our first contact was when i wrote to you about a different template parameter use case: namely the ability to introduce arbitrary parameters through the admin front end, the purpose of which might be more usually to do with the data, rather than the presentation layer.

On another matter, do you find your current comment extension has had its captchas cracked, or not?

  • Daniel Dimitrov
    avatar

    Hey Charles,
To be honest I don't remember our conversation about the parameters. Can you point me to the forum topic your are refering to?

About the captcha - we are implementing recaptcha :) They are specialised in fighting spam, so I believe that they will be a great addition to akismet (it is already in use in 4.0!)

Don't worry Daniel - i can hardly remember myself now ;)

  • rvdavid  - Editing CSS file manually is not enough?
    avatar

    Hi,

Congratulations. You seem to have put a lot of work into this.

Quick question though, what's wrong with going to "templates" >> "" >> selecting a CSS stylesheet (like say typo.css) in a decently organised CSS, then clicking edit?

I do something similar when tweaking templates etc via firebug.

Is there more to this, than parameterising front and background colours?

    Just curious is all.

    regards,

    rvdavid.

    Hey rvdavid,
You know, I live in my Netbeans editor. I edit 100s of files everyday. Move one chunk of a code to a new position, delete something add something and so on. I know what it is to write css, html, php, js on a daily basis.

If you are good at css, then you will not have any troubles editing something. But look at compojoom's forum. You will find out that most of the people have no idea what CSS is. They just come and ask - how to change this field from white to yellow. And what do I do then? I open the file with netbeans, look for the appropriate thing and tell them. Open this file, go to line 200, change it from this to this. And this is every day! Should I tell all this people - go and learn CSS. Install firebug and find out what you have to change alone?

This template is for all those users, that just want to setup a webpage, they don't want to learn CSS or don't have the time to do it. What I want to offer them is unlimited possibilities of how their webpage can look like.

I showed the template to a friend of mine - big linux freak, living in the console :D . And he was excited! "That is great, I like the idea to change the values only and not have to look in the css file" that is what he told me.

But you have a valid point and you are giving me an idea right now. I could make a second version of the template with 0 configuration options and you will be able to just edit the css files you want :) What you think about this? We will call it BiggieSmalls for Profis ;)

Very well said. BiggieSmalls has done something that I havn't seen yet, or even thought about - I don't know why, it seems so obvious!

Joomla is designed to have a clean, gradual learning curve. We can see this because so many people who know nothing about Web design can create a successful blog - thanks to things like Joomla.

Then Wordpress came along, and although it's not quite as "flexible" as Joomla in many areas, it's way easier to use. ANYONE can use it.

BiggieSmalls fills that gap - you've gone and capitalised on a great idea here Daniel, here's hoping CompoJoom develops more great resources for D.I.Y. web builders with Joomla!

  • Bruno  - Great!

    Is look very good!
    What a great surprise!!!
    100%configurable!
    Really great Job!

    Biggiebigs ;-)

I would like to thank you again for your big help with Joomla comment!

    Best regards

  • Lenard  - pulldown menu???
    avatar

    Daniel,

You allready ajusted today BiggieSmalls to be IE6-compliant. You are very flexible!!! My compliments!

Now let's see what happens if i push it even a bit more.

A good working pull-down-menu is one of the things I find very very important because it is a major problem to create one myself. Now I use jp_orange_style often because of this.

    Does BiggieSmalls have a pull-downmenu?

  • JonusC
    avatar

Yes I believe he does mean that Daniel :)

While they are not the choice for everyone, the option would be a good idea. It's all the craze lately, even Free templates are using it.

It'd be nice for you to implement a very simple Suckerfish/Superfish/Pulldown navigation menu in as simple a way as possible. I have seen so many times when templates who use a custom MooTools include to draw fancy sliding menus, which conflict with other extensions!

    Think about it ;)

  • Manish
    avatar

Ya, even i'm curious...does it have a pull-down menu and furthermore does it support K2? that'll be a great option.

  • AnDrew  - Nice video, Daniel!
    avatar

It's cool to see you branching out in an intelligent way. I'm sure everyone who uses Joomla uses your comment system (what else would they use?), and your Joomla support has been invaluable in my experience.

I'm looking forward to trying out your new template! Good job on the video. It was a nice thing to watch on a rainy Saturday morning in Portland, Oregon.

  • Alain Rivest  - Excellent!

Excellent idea! I'm trying to learn CSS but there's always something that don't work the way I want to. This is really great for a quick customization without having to search my CSS book or on google! B)

wow! looks so great! I hope that supports all the Joomla "positions" without any problem

  • Charles  - Params
    avatar

I remember what i was trying to do with parameters. What i wanted is a way of introducing an Amazon Associate ID as a page parameter through the front end, or indeed any arbitrary parameter. I wonder if that jogs your memory or inspires you?

  • Daniel Dimitrov
    avatar

    Hey Charles,
I've opened a new section for BiggieSmalls in the forum.

Perhaps you can post your idea there, explain it with a little bit more details and well if it is something that will give more value to all users, then we can implement it!

  • Boyd Reimer
    avatar

Does this work together with other templates? That is, if I already have a template, will this help me to change the parameters on my existing template?

  • Neil
    avatar

Ah random, but it could be a good idea (got it through boyd obviously) : you can incorporate it on existing themes.

    ...maybe

i just wanted to see how it would look :side:

Testimonials

Best support, fast upgrades

I don't really leave as many reviews as I should, but the support provided by Daniel is on par with the other leading extensions support groups.
I bought the component and installed it, and had questions about some customization (support for JomSocial + Avatars). I posted my questions on the forum, and within a couple of hours I had a very helpful response. I used to use the free !JoomlaComment extension, but when I saw that they went "pro" I definitely trusted their work on my site....

Professional coded..

Easy and quick install, a lot of features (antispam protection, quoting previous comments, reply to comments, rss and e-mail subscription...). I've tested some other comment modules for joomla and compojoom is one of the best because of the features and I've found no bug at all during testing...
